City officials expressed irritation over delays and excessive red tape in securing a $62,000 PWA loan to rebuild the San Felipe water system. They said they might dispose of the $62,000 bonds voted by Del Ricans elsewhere if problems persist, noting application was filed in February 1933 and all legal data requests have been met.
Members of the local Legion post will convene at 7 30 p m Thursday for the first meeting of the organization at the Odd Fellows Hall. Consideration will be given to the organization of a degree team for initiating new members and other matters relative to the district convention on May 25 and 26. Funeral services for Martin Luther Fletcher aged 48 were held Wednesday at 10 a m in the Doran Funeral Chapel with O G Prazia minister of the church of Christ officiating. Fletcher died Monday at 6 p m in a local sanitarium of acute pancreatitis. He came to Del Rio about three years ago from Port Arthur and worked as a carpenter. His son L H Fletcher arrived Tuesday from Port Arthur.
Del Rio friends report the serious illness of Nancy Ann Price daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Price of Corpus Christi The child formerly Mrs Claudia York of this city is ill with pneumonia at Corpus Christi Corpus Christi Texas is named as the family location but the illness is described as serious and pneumonia.
Cirus Augustus Chastang a former mayor of Del Rio and civic leader died after a two week illness in a local hospital at 3 40 am He served as mayor in 1920 1921 and was a long time Chamber of Commerce official He was born in Mobile Alabama on July 20 1869 and moved to Texas 41 years ago His funeral will be held at Del Rio’s Dorran Chapel with burial at Westlawn Cemetery Survivors include his widow daughter son eight grandchildren and several siblings The city hall flag was lowered to half mast in his honor
The City Commission suspended a $30 fine and costs against Johnny Gregory on a nuisance charge if he pays a $16.70 prior fine from February and relocates his repair shop near Canal Street by the old iron bridge. Attorney John L. Dodson proposed the compromise.
Mrs. R. A. Payne, owner of Draughon’s Business College in Del Rio, travels to Mission Valley after the death of her 16 month old niece, daughter of her sister Mrs. C. E. Laffman. The funeral is set for Thursday at 3 p.m. Survivors include Mrs. Payne, cousins Mrs. Tom Everett Jr., R. W. Payne and Miss Prances Dodson.
