L Perkins of Cameron resigned as State commander of the American Legion Department of Texas. In Waco a U S Commissioner filed a charge of forging a payee’s name to a government obligation. Perkins says the charge stems from his routine handling of compensation checks and cashing them as a courtesy to payees. He served seven months as commander and calls the allegations unfounded.
The HTH district praised L. Van Perkins of Cameron for his past services at a May 8 meeting in Waco. Perkins resigned Saturday as State Commander, and the district adopted a resolution to honor his work with the American Legion of the 11th district.
Chamber of Commerce officials set June 3 to 9 as National Tomato Week in Jacksonville with a two day festival on June 4 and 5 and a tomato growers barbecue. The event features The Dance of the Love Apple coronation ceremonies and show windows for tomatoes and by products. Jacksonville has about 50 years of commercial production and around 4000 carloads are shipped annually from the area.
The Ministry of Aviation announced that Marquise Carina Negrone de Cambiaso flew a hydro airplane to 5,554 meters 18 222 feet establishing a new international women's seaplane altitude record.
A Missouri Pacific international train derailed near San Luis Potosi Mexico last night. The engineer was killed and the fireman was believed fatally injured while a score of Americans escaped injury.
Cananea Mexico May 8. Arizona State patrolmen announced a hideout used in the June Robles kidnapping has been found. Officers George Ash and Tom Newell say the child was at the house recently but is now in the hands of two men who fled after the search expanded across Cananea and Sonora.
In San Antonio a man identified as James Miller was wounded and captured after a gunfight with officers at Shadowland Night Club. He is linked to a $2,500 robbery of L. C. Berrey drug stores office yesterday. Fingerprints later identified him as William Taylor Winters, an escaped federal prisoner.
The Sherman based Hardwicke-Etter Manufacturing Company announces a May 1 retirement annuity plan for all employees. Eligibility begins after two years of service with women retiring at 60 and men at 65. The fund covers past service and future accruals, with company contributions around six percent of eligible payroll and about $75,000 for past service.

Missouri Pacific reports March net operating income of 854 590 and March revenues 6 436 808. For the first quarter 1934 net income 1 970 873 and revenues 17 648 071. Gulf Coast lines show March income 173 916, first quarter 495 363, revenues 2 794 969. International Great Northern March income 201 123 and first quarter 380 679, revenues 3 093 477.
The Interior Department reports U S crude petroleum output for March at 175 548 million barrels, up from 65 450 million in February.
Washington May 8 The Interstate Commerce Commission backs a Federal Communications Commission to regulate telegraph radio and wire services. Commissioner Frank McNamara testified to the House interstate commerce committee on the Rayburn bill outlining the commission's position.
Samuel Insull was granted a 200000 bond by a federal judge and, unable to post, was jailed. Crowds greeted his arrival as he faced charges of using mails to defraud and bankruptcy act violations. He was fingerprinted and placed in a county jail cell after appearance before the judge.
Belton May 8 Baylor College physical education sponsors its second annual high school play day on May 5 with 200 attendees from Central Texas. Delegations of ten girls from junior and senior classes plus sponsors join color teams for group and individual sports on campus. Miss Margaret McCall directs the day to emphasize wholesome play.

In Lubbock on May 8, J M Hill Jr of the U S Biological Survey reported that 59 215 ravens were killed in Jones and Taylor counties this spring by poison and traps. He noted 30 traps operated in the two counties and they caught hundreds of birds.
