Wallace Announces Candidacy for County Attorney

W P Wallace Jr attorney announced his bid for county attorney in Del Rio Texas. Born Polk county August 9 1905 he was admitted to the bar in 1928 with a Baylor University L L B. He worked with Judge C C Belcher and later represented the Texas Association of Wool and Mohair Warehouses in Chicago. He has civic roles with the Lions Club and San Felipe Country Club and has built wide county wide acquaintance since arriving from Beaumont in 1928.

Soldier Held As Illegal Entrant From Canada

A seventeen year old boy discharged from Fort Clark after a fraudulent enlistment conviction stated in the immigration office that his birthplace is Canada. This is the second similar case handled by authorities here within weeks, with another Canadian youth jailed on illegal entry charges.

Crockett County population reached 82 600, up 1 100 from 1920. Edwards County recorded 2 764 residents, up 481 since 1920. Sutton County was listed at 2 106 residents, announced Wednesday.

Death notices: W R McLean veter an railroad man

Funeral services for W R McLean 55 veteran on Southern Pacific lines between Del Rio and San Antonio will be held Friday at 4 pm in Porter Loring parlors San Antonio with Masonic Lodge rites. McLean died Wednesday at Santa Rosa infirmary. He began as a call boy in 1894 rising to conductor and retired two years ago due to illness. He was born in the Argentine and is survived by his wife a sister in San Antonio and an aunt Mrs Winnie Ramsey Del Rio. J B Moore Del Rio is a nephew.

Funeral Services For Charles Senne Held In Brackett

Funeral services were held here Wednesday for Charles Senne, 51, a resident of Brackettville for several years. He is survived by Mrs Senne, two sons, George and Herbert, and two brothers. He had been ill for a long time.

Eight Jurors Picked In Brady Hearing

In Dallas on May 8 eight jurors were chosen to hear the second trial of former appellate court judge John W. Brady for the murder of Lehlia Highsmith. Veniremen surviving yesterday’s questioning included J. E. Poston A R Lewis H Gault and W J Norman along with two others. A special venue of 200 is on hand in case the panel runs short.

Injunction Halt Sought Over Mortgaged Auto Pending Suit

Tom Green County judge in chambers issued an injunction Thursday morning restraining local men from selling a 1926 Chrysler coupe involved in a suit in Val Verde County. The Del Rio Motor Company led by president T F Clingman seeks damages of 213.48 for work on the car. The defendants include Winston Roth Walter Buck Motor Co Chain Investment Co and C A Womanc. Tom Green County interests planned to dispose of the car to satisfy a county court judgment.

Air Mail Plane Crash Kills Two Mechanics

In Cincinnati Ohio today two air mail plane mechanics were killed when their craft went into a tail spin after takeoff. Orlin Smith 27 of Shelby Indiana and Dominic Angelia 27 of Torrington Connecticut died in the crash. Officials said the plane was not sufficiently warmed up before flight.

13-Year-Old Girl Returns After Disappearance

Dee Perkins 51 faces abduction charges in the case of Lillian Chastain 13 who was missing since Monday night. Lillian returned home Thursday morning as Perkins and the girl were held by authorities in Sanderson and Del Rio with plans for parental custody.

Decline in Kansas City Livestock Prices Leads to Weaker Sheep and Lambs

Kansas City market receipts totaled 7,000 sheep with fed lambs down 15 cents and spring lambs 25 cents lower. Early top for wooled lambs to shippers was 11 dollars, packers 10.35 to 10.85. Cattle, calves, and hogs posted mixed results as market activity varied across killing classes and hogs rose 10 to 15 cents.

Carta Mercantile occupies new Carta Valley store building

The Carta Mercantile Company moved this week into a modern 70 by 26 foot brick storefront near the ranch home of St. Wright, with a residence for manager Ian Waller in back.
