J Edgar Hoover announced Harry Campbell the last Karpis gang member was seized by federal agents in Toledo with a woman described as his wife and Sam Cokar also captured. Campbell to be moved to St Paul to face Bremer kidnapping charges. Hoover said the last of the gang is in custody.
Ralph Stowers a 48 year old West Los Angeles salesman was saved from the La Brea tar pits in a dramatic rescue. A park attendant used a hooked pole to drag him from the viscous pool as onlookers watched in alarm. He was treated for shock and is expected to recover.
