Sonora May 7. Sutton County shows a population of 2,806 according to census Supervisor P. C. Berard. The 1920 count was 1,508 and the county spans more area than Rhode Island with 156 farms.
May 7 The Court of Appeals refused Jotu McKenzie’s petition for habeas corpus. He was convicted of the slaying of detective Sam Street in San Antonio and faced possible death or life imprisonment. After psychiatric evaluations, McKenzie was found sane and sent for another sanity trial, which again found him unfit. He has remained jailed in San Antonio.
The case against District Judge I J Brucks was dismissed after Judge Joseph Jones ruled the indictment defective. Brucks faced charges of auto theft and liquor influence. Judge Jones sat in the case while the district presiding judge was disqualified. orders followed in vacation.
Blackwell and Musgrave former city police officers head to Porto Rico from Galveston to begin customs duties on the island. Musgrave’s wife remains in the city to oversee a miniature golf course venture and the pair’s local ties are noted as contracts were filed years ago.
AUSTIN May 7 The United Press reports a brighter outlook for Texas livestock after recent rains. Carl H Robinson of the federal department of agriculture says in the May Texas livestock report cattle condition at 70 percent and range quality at 80 percent with only slight cattle losses despite prior adverse conditions.
A freak goat from Fred Henderson’s ranch near Vanoc was shown here, possessing two fully formed heads with two noses and four eyes, but only two ears. The mounted specimen reportedly lived only minutes after birth. another twin-kid reportedly had two bodies with one head.
Del Rio's Mistletoe Creamery, led by Roy G Rightsmire at 410 North Main, expands to serve surrounding towns with eight trucks and new routes to Brackettville Uvalde Eagle Pass Carrizo Springs Crystal City Reckstrings Senora and Ozona. The plant, affiliated with Borden, now supports growing payroll and Milk products include butter evaporated milk powdered milk skimmed milk cheese and cottage cheese with bottling and pasteurization processes in house.

Ulrich Ross, delegate to the sixty seventh district convention of Rotary International at Corpus Christi, spoke at a Rotary lunch on district meeting topics. Dr. George Cox attended. Rotarians and families were invited to a banquet at San Felipe Country Club honoring Rev. P. Staiknecht, retiring rector. Several visitors, including Lions Club members, attended the luncheon.
W. Wilcox, chairman of the State Democratic executive committee, filed an answer in the State Supreme Court opposing former Governor Ferguson’s mandamus to force the committee to place his name on the Democratic gubernatorial primary ballot. Wilcox argues the amnesty act passed during Mrs Ferguson’s tenure to restore his office rights is invalid.
On Wednesday the Kansas City market showed steady prices for fed lambs and odd lots of sheep with spring lambs 15 to 25 cents lower than Tuesday. Arizona springs brought 11.50 to 11.75, top wooled lambs 11. Receipts: sheep 7,000 holdover 2,925 cattle 5,000. Light yearlings and feeder heifers under 700 pounds were steady. heavier weights slow. Hoy receipts 7,000 with fairly active market and 10 cent higher. 180-220 pound stock at 9.75.

A second jury of view in Sonora reports 14 per acre for 20 feet on each side of the Del Rio San Angelo highway from Sonora to the Edwards County line, a 22 mile span. Additional 10.2% acres would bring the right of way to 100 feet. Dexter Construction Co. may begin fencing and property moves. work on topping the highway starts soon. The county previously rejected 25 per acre from the first jury and may condemn land to set a price for use.
Across the border in Alberta near Lethbridge the Border Boom fields see rapid growth as fourteen derricks rise with more planned. The Red Coulee field began production last September and has not yet reported a dry hole.
Del Rio high school's senior class staged a class day parade with gingham dresses and overalls styled as kids. About 35 seniors attended a 3:14 dismissal and picnic at Devil's River with sponsors Mrs George Love Mrs H B Ross Mrs J C Neftis and Miss Marte Brock mar.
Miss Marion Russell daughter of Mr and Mrs J A Russell of this city won first place in a 1020 30 diploma class contest at Incarnate Word College San Antonio. Contestants played the same piano selection and she earned the blue ribbon as a freshman who recently graduated Sacred Heart Academy Del Rio.
