United States Senator Bronson Cutting of New Mexico and three others died at dawn when a twin motor transcontinental plane crashed near Kirksville after circling fog from Albuquerque. The dead include pilot Harvey Belton and co pilot Kenneth Greeson. a 20 year old Kansas City woman believed to be Jeanne Anne Hillias. Nine others injured were taken to Samaritan hospital. The Hollywood film group aboard included Richard Wallace and Toby Wing among the injured. Washington observed a day of mourning for Cutting.
Guy Manly Farmer, 26, a former Seymour High School football star and former Christian University student, was found dead in his East Dallas room at 46104 Gaston Avenue. Justice of the Peace E John Baldwin ruled poison as the cause after a coroner's inquest. the victim had been in Dallas two weeks and seeking work amid despondency.

City Patrolman Calvin Wallen arrested a man Sunday as he emerged from Gildea Grocery Store in San Felipe for pilfering. The suspect was held overnight and turned over to the sheriff's department Monday. At noon Monday no arrests yet for the burglary of W F Humphreys home on South Main Street. Evidence included broken glass, food and bedding taken, blood stains, and muddied barefoot prints.
Nathan Matheny aged 57, a Caldwell night patrolman, killed himself with his wife’s pistol after fearing public shame for being kidnapped by bandits who later robbed a Caldwell hardware store. He had served on his beat with his own weapon nearby. Detectives investigated the apparent suicide linked to the kidnapping incident.

A special legislative committee reported evidence of brutal treatment of convicts at the Retrieve prison farm. It found the abuse was not sanctioned by management, with convicts testifying that guards struck them with ropes and hoses, kicked them, and mistreated them in violation of regulations.

May 46 Bryson Texas officers killed one robber and wounded another during a bank escape from the First State Bank. The slain man, identified as 33 year old Austin Hawkins, Gregg County bootlegger, had 17 bullet wounds. The wounded robber fled with a leg wound after firing during the getaway.
Austin notes the Legislature sent a constitutional amendment to voters to authorize a monthly old age pension of 15 dollars for those over five years old. The measure seeks state funding and would require passage by the electorate.
Washington May 6 The entire railroad retirement act affecting more than 1 000 000 employees was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court Justice Roberts delivering the ruling. The decision upheld a lower court finding and struck down the act as a whole.
Dallas May 6 The $3,000,000 Centennial appropriation bill faces its deadline as Gov. James V. Allred has seven hours left before Tuesday midnight to sign or veto. If unsigned, the bill becomes law and would fund Fair Park buildings. a veto would leave Dallas to bear the burden or halt the celebration. Centennial officials refused comment while Dallas observers speculate on the governor’s move.
Deputy Sheriff Joe Graham recovered a bicycle stolen from Chris Jones Jr in Quemado Valley. Several youngsters were found with other stolen items and a hearing on the charges against the boys will be held in Quemado at an early date.

First mohair sale in Del Rio in 18 months drew top prices in the state with 825000 pounds sold at 26 cents per pound for grown hair and 36 cents for kid hair. C B Dutch Wardlaw and Geo E O Neill led the two firms.
