Mrs. Sarah Delano Roosevelt said the president will visit Texas for the centennial unless unforeseen conditions arise as she passed through Denison on route to Hyde Park New York. The statement was made during the may 6 stop of the presidential party.
Retired Brackettville merchant Hans Petersen recalls Del Rio in 1899 as a frontier town with a store handling a little of everything from cradles to coffins. He and his brother Nels moved to Brackettville to run a store while Petersen later retired to California in 1927.
The Southwest Texas Odd Fellows Association meets Friday and Saturday in Del Rio. The I O O F Hall on Pecan Street hosts sessions with welcomes from city officials and church leaders. Initiations, Royal Purple degree, and Rebekah contests are planned, ending with memorial services and a dance.
Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Riggs 70 wife of W W Riggs of Carta Valley were held in Carta Valley Monday at 3 30 p m Rev L C Beasley officiated and interment followed in Carta Valley Cemetery Doran Funeral Home directed. She died Sunday night in Williams Sanitarium born Sept 17 1865 near Denison Grayson County married April 1887 in Montague County moved to Carta Valley in 1900. Survivors include her husband two children Sterling Riggs and Mrs Tom Gobble seven grandchildren one great grandchild and a nephew W Askew reared by her Pall bearers listed Del Rio attendees noted.
Convict James Day, 21, charged with the razor slaying of Richard Loeb, a fellow convict, was ordered to trial May 25 by Circuit Judge Edwin L Wilson after a murder charge was reinstated.

The United States reports from Italy that lives and property of foreigners in Addis Ababa will be protected under the rules of war once Italians assume control. State Department confirms a large Italian force has entered the foreign capital.
George Netts, midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and son of Mr and Mrs Jas C Netts of Del Rio, will join the second and fourth classes on a cruise to foreign waters after graduation exercises in June. The voyage includes two weeks in England one week in Sweden and one week in France with return to Annapolis on August 27. He will be released for vacation August 27 to September 29 and his parents will drive to Annapolis to bring him home to Del Rio.
Judging of yards and gardens entered in the contest sponsored by the Del Rio Garden Club and the Chamber of Commerce has been completed. Judges are not yet ready to announce winners, with results likely forthcoming soon. The contest used several classes to ensure fairness.
