Five San Felipe men were arraigned before Judge C. D. Smith in municipal court Saturday morning and fined $12.70 each for disturbing the peace. Officers Bob Leroy and Rudolph Corronado arrested them after witnesses complained about loud singing under windows with a guitar while they were intoxicated.
In Jackson on May 5 the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South abolished the general hospital board and the general board of temperance and social service and merged their functions into other boards.
The Senate passed a bill to make killing or assaulting a federal officer on duty a federal crime. The measure now moves to the House for final action.

London May 5. Britain and Italy press King Ibn Saud to state his ultimate objectives in the war against Yemenis fleeing Sana. Reports say Ibn Saud’s forces slow their drive toward Sana. A Cairo paper says Saud’s army occupies Hodeidah, driving out Emir Seiful Islam.
Del Rio residents are assured of a pure water supply as the Texas Department Health Laboratories at Austin tested Del Rio spring water from San Felipe Springs and found no contamination. Dr. D. A. York, city health officer, sent the sample on April 18 and received the report.
Del Rio and vicinity expect fair weather tonight and Sunday with cooler conditions. Yesterday’s high was 89 and the low 71 this morning. tonight remains cooler. West Texas and the Southeast will be fair and cooler, with a warmer Panhandle by Sunday. East Texas sees partly cloudy skies tonight and Sunday with warmer conditions in the Northeast.
About 300 people gathered Friday at Quemado Valley, including 28 Del Rioans. The meeting in Quemado townsite featured remarks by Sam H. Walk president of the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, Jas C. Netts chamber manager, and District Attorney Julian LaCrosse who spoke after being introduced by Netts.
At five o'clock a barbecue supper was served by the Quemado people. Friday meeting attendees from Del Rio included Sam H. Walk, Jas. C. Netts, District Attorney Julian LaCrosse and many others such as Mrs. W. M. Abbey, Mrs. Clarence Miller, Clarence King, J. P. Williamson, Ulric Ross, Max Stool, Dr. B. F. Orr, Joe Stool, Geo. E. Love, Paul Sultenfuss, E. F. Measels, A. Madison, and P. A. Kerby among a long list.
Judge W F Boggess C B Dutch Wardlaw and George O Neill returned Friday from Washington where they attended a Senate Finance Committee hearing on a reciprocal tariff bill allowing adjustments up to 50 percent. E S Mayer of San Angelo joined wool leaders including F R Marshall and J B Wilson to press the measure for wool and Mohair growers on May 1 with Democrats pledging support.
Judges and senators debated agricultural tariff policy urging the committee to report adversely on the measure, save for Judge Boggess who cited a Baltimore speech. They highlighted wool and mohair as vital to farm prosperity and cautioned against tariff uncertainty harming prices and markets. Members listed include King Utah Barkley Kentucky Connally Texas and others. The Texas delegation expects passage but warns against disturbing immediate wool markets.
Greenock Scotland May 5 Captain Stewart master of the Duchess of New York reports a fruitless search of the liner for John Dillinger fugitive American desperado. Officers plan to board the vessel when it arrives to verify rumors of his aboard are false.
Mexican residents of Del Rio observe Cinco de Mayo with a musical program at the Casino Theatre San Felipe starting at 8 o'clock Saturday night. The event is arranged and sponsored by a committee of Mexican citizens to commemorate the 1862 Mexican army victory over the French at Puebla and the defeat of Maximilian.
