Longtime Del Rio Resident H. M. Block Dies at 90
H. M. Block, a Confederate veteran and one of Del Rio’s oldest citizens, died Monday night at 6 15. He moved to Del Rio in 1874 and helped found the local mercantile business later led by his son. Funeral services are set for Tuesday 4 PM at Doran Funeral Home with Rev H Conger Jones officiating. Burial at West Lawn Cemetery. He came to Texas during the Civil War from Baltimore and lived in Brackettville and San Antonio before settling in Del Rio. Survivors include his son E B Block and three generations of Block relatives.

Del Rio's Oldest Citizen H. M. Block Dies
H M Block who died Monday was believed Del Rio's oldest resident by years and age. He arrived in 1874 when the town was San Felipe Del Rio and helped rename it Del Rio while serving as postmaster. A Civil War veteran, he pioneered in merchandising and served in public life until retiring as justice of the peace ten years earlier. He lived in the city 58 years.
