Mrs Myrtle Mars McAnelly 51 wife of R D McAnelly dies Friday at Willian Sanitarium after long illness. Last rites planned for 5 pm Saturday at St James Episcopal Church with Rev F C Rufle. Interment Westlawn Cemetery under Doran Funeral Home. Born in Chelsea England December 27 1885 she came to the U S in 1913 and settled in Del Rio. Survived by McAnelly, siblings in England. no other details confirmed.
Two year old Winona Nelson was found alive in the woods near Upton Massachusetts after being missing since Sunday night. Dr John J Bouvier reported the child in critical condition with frozen hands and legs and gangrene in the left foot from starvation and exposure. Her face and exposed skin were scratched and bruised from bushes.
A car struck a train near Brazori Phe, killing E C Mealon 22 and Hutton, and injuring Robert Keily 15. The vehicle was dragged about 100 yards along the tracks before demolition.
Thousands joined traditional May Day marches as cannons boomed from Warsaw to Moscow. German workers heard Hitler claim higher wages were not yet due while Red Square hosted Cossack parades as Stalin watched. New York staged its largest May Day parade in history.
Deputy supervisor H L Warren of the Texas Liquor Control Board met Friday in Del Rio with local Chamber of Commerce members and vineyard owners to explain winery permits under Class B. Growers may produce and sell wine by the pint to quart off premises, but not by the drink on site. The group, including Julian LaCrosse, plans to expand vineyards and move toward commercial wine production next year.
