City board of equalization will meet Monday night to begin property valuation work after Friday selection. Members A. Batot W. M. Speer and Bryan Kelley will serve. City Clerk E. F. Howard said tax rolls should be released by July 15.
Addis Ababa reports Haile Selassie orders all able bodied citizens near the capital to march north tomorrow to halt advancing Italian troops. He urged five days provisions for soldiers as the city prepares for a near arrival of invaders and remains nearly deserted except for police.
Rome reports all of Italy ready for rapid mobilization with Fascist entry into Addis Ababa seen as final victory. The Italian army is expected to reach the Ethiopian capital within hours as government states 6,800 casualties on both sides in recent fighting.
Beaumont dispatch reports Mrs. Reable Childs gave a detailed statement describing how she and Terrance Bramlett plotted and carried out the shooting death of her crippled husband Morlie Childs, a wealthy property owner and former Shelby County treasurer. She claimed the motive was love, not money, as she and Bramlett face murder charges after Childs was shot at his Center Texas home.
California Progressive Democrats led by an opponent of Senator McAdoo unveiled a platform for old age pensions and a unicameral legislature. About 1,000 delegates at the first convention adopted articles of principles and planned to rally Northern California supporters in San Francisco on May 16.

Washington May 1. Chairman Alva B Adams of Colorado said the state wool investigating committee likely cannot hold hearings this session. Field investigators probe Boston wool brokers. witnesses not yet summoned. The inquiry, aimed at wool production marketing and transport, may run through the summer.
Val Verde County grand jury resumed work Friday after a one week recess. Impanelled April 20 for the Del Rio April term, the body met at 10 o clock with two new members Therrell Rose and John Dissler replacing E. Block and D. T. Southall. The panel includes O. R. A ten year old boy named Joe Willis escaped the hospital awaiting doctor to remove his tonsils. His aunt Mrs W H Lewis reported the incident to police. After two hours Joe was found playing near a neighbor's house.
Kansas City letter from a 32 year old widow asks Chief Amos Humphrey to help find a dark haired tall man to comfort her. He says he will not run a matrimonial bureau but may aid in the request, citing her loneliness and wish to leave Kansas City. The widow, jobless after WPA layoff, offers to repay any cost.
