Funeral services for Mrs Cornelia C Keller 69 widow of Charles W Keller were held Sunday at the First Methodist Church with Rev L C Beaslef. Interment followed at Masonic Cemetery under Rix Funeral Home of Lubbock. Born Sept 23 1846 in Mississippi she came to Del Rio about 50 years ago and was active in church and music. She died in Lubbock Friday at her sister Mrs Lida Grimes home.
England gave a solemn farewell to Admiral Earl Beatty as thousands lined the streets from Admiralty Arch to St. Paul’s Cathedral. Two royal dukes York and Kent followed the coffin behind the famed World War II hero after the Battle of Jutland.
Rep. Stanford Payne had urged a CCC camp at Lake Walk for a State Park. Robert Fichner, director of Conservation Work, wrote to Payne that President Roosevelt cannot approve a camp in Del Rio under current policy.
Plans for the year will be discussed at a Tuesday evening banquet for the Chamber of Commerce Advisory Council and directors. The 7 30 dinner will be at the Roswell Hotel with invitations to members. Porter Whaley of the Texas Manufacturing Association and Judge Perry S Robertson of the San Antonio Chamber will attend.
The R. C. Courtney farmhouse at Mud Creek eighteen miles east on the San Antonio highway was completely destroyed by fire last Friday. Occupied by caretaker W. T. Buntyn, the Old Cornell ranch suffered total loss of house contents and stored tools, implements and seeds.
C Umrick of 1102 Victoria St San Antonio writes to The News seeking a wife with money to start a small business. He is 35, 5 ft 8 1 2 in, black hair gray eyes rosy complexion and describes himself as very jolly. Letters to him in care of San Antonio.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. J. O. Russell 98, aunt of Mrs. R. H. Martin of Del Rio, who died at her daughter Mrs. E. H. McTaggart’s home in Menard. Mrs. Russell and her husband once drove an ox wagon to Texas in 1869 from Chattanooga, Tenn. She was mother of the late R. R. Russell of San Antonio and Lee L. Russell of Fort Worth.
In Beaumont on March 30 Judge C N Ellis threw out the conviction of Lester Fregia operator of a Port Neches package store. He ruled state liquor inspectors who asked the defendant to sell whiskey became accomplices in the offense. The jury had fined Fregia $100.
The British cabinet invited German militarists to confer with the British French and Belgian general staffs if Hitler accepts the Rhineland settlement terms. Reichsfuehrer Hitler drafted counter proposals for presentation on Tuesday.
London March 30 Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin assured the House of Commons the British general staff would not be tied to commitments in forthcoming talks with French and Belgian army commands on mutual defense against possible German aggression. The pledge follows widespread distrust in Parliament.
Austin March 30. Coke R. Stevenson, cited as a possible House speaker, would prefer a minor role next legislature after two terms as presiding officer. He may stay active in the House to keep political contacts for a potential statewide race in 1938. R. W. Calvert of Hillsboro also considers a third term and a bid for speaker, though he is uncertain.

Woco Pep a female leaped 13 feet 7 inches in 1924 in the South's first frog frolic a mark never officially equalled. The record stood three inches longer than Budweiser's 1932 Angles Camp mark. The champion leaves behind a pen full of frogs eager to defend their mother's record.
Trenton March 39 4 Bruno Richard Hauptmann pleaded with the Court of Pardons to spare him from execution Governor Harold Hoffman pressed the case arguing Hauptmann was unfairly tried and that state witnesses testimony could be questioned The governor warned success hinges on fellow pardons members and said he would not seek another reprieve if denied.
Senator Robinson, Democrat, today said he would oppose the new 300 million flood control bill, claiming it favors the East. He urged the Senate commerce committee to instead consider the 750 million measure passed by the House last week.
A Kingsville man mailed a letter to a McAllen friend by affixing a nickel with a paper clip to the envelope’s upper right corner. The letter reached the McAllen post office with the nickel intact. postal workers added a three cent stamp and sent the sender a two cent stamp as change.
Chillicothe resident Tr. Moore sustained broken ribs severe bruises and painful cuts when flung from a car after a blowout on the highway 47 miles north of Del Rio late Sunday. Passenger Joe Mebray and J W McCurrey, both of Chillicothe, were uninjured.
