R. R. Williams known as Uncle Bob, a veteran ex Confederacy member and Hopkins County official, is Cumby’s oldest resident at nearly 95. Born in Tennessee, he moved to Cumby in 1870, served as justice of the peace and Hopkins County representative, and once ran for governor in 1908 against Tom Campbell. He remains active, walks without a cane, and reads with glasses despite impaired eyesight.
UVALDE March 27 H P Hornby publisher of Uvalde announces candidacy for the 15th District representing the Democratic party to succeed A P Johnson who retires due to ill health Hornby previously served in the 32nd 33rd and 36th Legislatures and was census supervisor for the 15th District He aided ranchers farmers and bee keepers and authored a bill raising labor pay from two to three dollars a day He is a longtime Garner ally former Uvalde mayor and current chairman of the Uvalde County Relief Board supports Democratic causes and civic leadership in his home city.
Four men died and eight were injured when a wall at a municipal building under construction collapsed in Vera Cruz Mexico on March 21. Local authorities investigated the incident while rescue crews removed victims and secured the site.
Anna Ratner Stool, 48, wife of Max Stool, died Monday at 5:30 p.m. at her Del Rio home after a relapse following return from a year away. Born in Slitz Russia, she came to Chicago in 1903 then moved with her husband to Del Rio 24 years ago. Funeral planned Wednesday at 3 p.m. in San Antonio. cortege leaves Del Rio Tuesday at 11 a.m. Survivors include husband Max Stool and three children. many relatives attend from Pecos, Crystal City, San Antonio, and Hondo.
75-year-old T. Smith, brother of Judge C. D. Smith of Del Rio, was reported dying Tuesday afternoon in Wellington Texas. He had lived in Arlington and is the uncle of several Del Rio residents including Mrs. Felix Reynolds and Mrs. John Langford. The judge planned no trip to Wellington.
The Val Verde committee includes O. B. Wardlaw W. S. Stevenson M Stool T R Smith of Comstock and Attorney Walter F. Jones. Committees are being formed in every Texas county with appointments from Governor Miriam Ferguson. The group acts as a Federal arbitration board.
Mrs. G. M. Worley, about 56, mother of S. A. Worley of Del Rio, died at 12:15 Tuesday at her sister Mrs. Viola Ross home in Palestine after months of illness. Funeral services expected in Palestine Wednesday. She had lived in Del Rio six years and moved to Palestine five months ago. Survivors include one son S. A. Worley of Del Rio, two sisters and two brothers.
Seven Del Ricans attended the Order of the Eastern Star school of instruction held Monday night in Eagle Pass. They met with Worthy Grand Matron Mrs. Rose F. Potter and other grand officers. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Easterling, Mrs. Joseph Campbell, Mrs. A. L. Harris, Mrs. A. Herzing, Mrs. G. D. Willis and Miss Lyde Williams.
Senator Connally of Texas announced a draft bill to recall all outstanding currency and replace it with new money. Holders would be required to surrender current bills and coins to the government in exchange for the new currency.
In Kansas City on March 27, a bitter municipal election between Democratic organizers and the Citizens-Fusion ticket erupted in violence. William Findley, a Black election worker, was fatally shot near a polling place. A reporter and a Republican election judge were assaulted or abducted, and vehicles were damaged as hoodlums clashed.

The forecast calls for fair and warmer conditions tonight and Wednesday with partly cloudy skies. Yesterday’s high reached 68 and the low dipped to 39 with this morning’s 42. West Texas expects warmer weather, while East Texas may see frost but less cold in the Northwest tonight and Wednesday.
