Merchants report rising wool prices driven by European trends and new buyers arriving from the East. In West Texas markets, purchases are steady with several large clips tied to price expectations around 22 to 26 cents a pound, as bracing for a firmer market continues.
The wedding cake of Mrs George Washington Hamilton Putton of Del Rio has been secured by the Missouri State Museum for its 64 year life span. The cake, not cut since 1867, was kept as a memento by Mrs O. 8. Carstarphen and J KR Hamilton and will join Jefferson City’s collection.

A proposed order from the central program office, reviewed by the State Railroad Commission, sets East Texas oil production at 56 000 barrels daily with monthly increases to reach 70 000 by June 1, extending six months from April 1. Total Texas output remains capped at 645 000 barrels daily.
National guardsmen patrolled the Jackson County jail in Scottsboro Alabama to avert a lynching of nine Negroes held for assaulting two white girls in a moving freight car. The assault followed the group throwing six white men off near Stevenson. Lester Carter of Houston Texas was forced to witness the attack. The girls received medical treatment and said they were returning home after failing to find work in Chattanooga Tennessee.
Del Rio street crews have been resurfacing West Martin and Washington Street south of the courthouse block as winter ruts are leveled. A heavy roller follows the smoothing work to pack the dirt and finish the street.
Judge C C Belcher speaks at Hotel Roswell urging extreme caution by wool men to avert further damage after a mohair market slump. He cites losses from pre arranged sales and farm board reactions, warning the industry could face months or years of hardship without disciplined disposition of supplies.

Thunderstorms were forecast for East Texas with coastal winds shifting to northerly.
San Benito report: Cenobio Gonzales sixteen dies after a quarrel at a funeral. Carlos Atkinson sixteen and Frederico Atkinson fourteen jailed after a fist fight escalated when the younger Atkinson joined. Police say Cenobio was stabbed.
Three men invaded the home of Dr Edmund Bigall in Hollis New York ransacking the house torturing the dentist and insulting his wife. They bound him and his wife while women accomplices dressed. The robbers burned his feet with matches and cigarettes then fled after 15 minutes of listening to the radio.
In Chihuahua and Coahuila massive grazing lands face waste as new U S import duties dim cattle exports. A Mexican cattleman leader warns the tariff harms both sides while proposing free five year imports to stock Mexican ranges. Ranch operations span American and Mexican ownership with large herds and diverse water resources.
The freighter Pacific Cedar arrived at Barnegat port after colliding with the tanker Raritan Sun in fog and rough seas overnight. No injuries were reported. Coast Guard Commander Edward Osborn noted the tanker had not filed a distress with shore officials or sent signals.
Judge C C Belcher of Del Rio says he will not seek the presidency of the National Wool Marketing Corporation after Roger Gillis’s resignation. Mayer of San Angelo is viewed as a likely successor, with Chicago set to decide on April 10 during the directors’ annual meeting. Gillis resigned amid disagreements with the Federal Farm Board and other board members.

Mrs Lottie Porter, 80, sister of Mrs G B Carstarphen and J R Hamilton of Del Rio, died last week at her home in Phoenix Arizona. She was well known in Del Rio, having visited here several times and attended the golden wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Carstarphen three years ago.
Dave, a backwoodsman held in Dallas and Texarkana jails for killing Lloyd Fiffott in a hog dispute, may receive a new trial after authorities ruled the mob intimidation tainted the original jury and death penalty. The retail merchants urged the fifth circuit to rescind orders removing dispatchers.
John Rowland president of the Del Rio Retail Merchants' Association leads a campaign urging Southern Pacific to move the dispatchers' office back to Del Rio. He cites long-standing local ties, home and school ties, and warns reductions could drive business away and invite Santa Fe competition.

Joe Daniels pleaded guilty to reckless driving in Corporation Court and was fined $12.70 after his car struck Bill Jackson’s parked vehicle near the Southern Pacific crossing on Main Street Wednesday night. Police said Jackson’s car sustained heavy damage.
Prohibition agents sold 1,139 cases of good whiskey in Covington Kentucky for 8111 dollars. The bid came from the James E Pepper Distillery Company of Lexington. The liquor was seized four years ago during a raid near the old 76 distillery warehouse in Campbell county as possible tax evasion.
The Essex sedan found abandoned in Del Rio near the Southern Pacific station more than three weeks ago is identified as belonging to George C. Anderson of Houston. Police say the owner had not notified authorities about theft and would contact her son if the car was needed.
