Ways and Means Panel Drafts $600 Million Revenue Plan
The House Ways and Means Committee formed a sub committee to draft proposals aimed at raising about 600 million dollars to balance the budget. The move follows the defeat of the manufacturers sales tax in the new revenue bill. The group hopes to report to the full committee by Monday. Representative Doughton of North Carolina, a leader among insurgents who opposed the sales tax, was not named to the sub committee. Chairman Crisp said there will be no rewrite of the entire revenue bill as Hoover suggested.
