A 50 mile wind swept West Texas causing damage across the Plains and Panhandle. San Angelo logged a brief 50 mph gust. telephone poles and ranch windmills toppled, several small dwellings and stores were unroofed, garages overturned, and signs wrecked. Del Rio saw little damage.
Pola Flores was bound over to the April term of Val Verde County grand jury on a charge of chicken theft after an examining trial before Justice of the Peace Charles Miller Tuesday morning. He faced the theft of four chickens from neighbors.
Attleboro Mass Major John W Bean is in his 100th year and declares himself the oldest retired U S Army officer. He commands the local G A R Post and was wounded three times in the Civil War.
The present in service telephone count in Spain is 242 152, roughly one per 90 inhabitants. Figures show 212 360 in 1930, 174 059 in 1929, and 135 306 in 1928.
Mrs Deana Olch daughter of a czarist engineer and active for White Russia recounted her escape from Petrograd and flight to Constantinople. She arrived in Los Angeles aboard the Santa Elisa and said she married Lt Olch of the U S Navy in Constantinople while her mother and three sisters remained detained in Petrograd.
In Changchun Manchuria on March 22 reports say the widespread Manchurian revolt against the new state is triggering clashes between Japanese and Chinese rebels near the Soviet border. A skirmish at Nanhuto left 150 Chinese and 13 Japanese dead.
The lower House passed a bill for military campaign costs in Shanghai and Manchuria and sent it to the House of Peers. The Diet meets in an extraordinary session.

A federal grand jury reported eleven indictments to Judge Robert J. McMillan with six counts for National Prohibition Act violations and five for immigration law violations. Two defendants pled guilty. Francisco Aguilar faces deportation proceedings and Grocerio Garza was discharged after pleading guilty to liquor possession.
Plans for the rural schools county meet in Val Verde County are nearly complete with details to be announced by Mrs. Marie Grande Adams. The event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until all contests finish that night, with a free barbecue at noon and again at night. All rural schools participate in this first Val Verde County meet.
The 30 percent cotton planting limit became inoperative after the state did not request a rehearing on a Waco Court of Civil Appeals ruling that the law is unconstitutional. Agriculture Commissioner J. E. McDonald urged farmers to follow the law for their own good despite the decision.
Bandera County mourns Sheriff Elyious Hicks aged 52 and ranchman Pen Clark after a deadly Saturday night shootout. The long funeral procession drew more than 3,000 people as state officials and residents paid respects. The county moved to appoint a successor while Rangers kept watch. Witnesses testified Hicks pursued Clark after a raid for liquor and arrested him. a gun battle followed with Hicks fatally shot.
New York March 22 police raided a Bronx apartment seeking Harry Fleischer for questioning in the Lindbergh kidnapping probe. Fleischer, linked to the Detroit Purple Gang and wanted there for killing three rival racketeers, remained at large after the raid. Two women a boy and a man were questioned and released.
State police who handle the abduction of the Lindbergh baby declined to discuss the New York search for Harry Fleischer of Detroit s Purple Gang. Their morning bulletin offered little information and said recently found clues had proved fruitless.
Henry S. Everson was reelected town clerk of Kingston marking his 42nd consecutive year in the post. He has served since 1880s, maintaining continuity in local administration and records.
A Dallas blaze trapped four men in rooms at the Eli Hotel over a store cafe. Victims were W H Bodenhaimer 55 Frank Fisher 40 Grover Hobson crippled and Frank C Granger 50 Chicago crippled rental worker. Five others injured by flames and falling timbers including 11 year old Ethel Hazelwood who woke other guests. Flames blocked the stairway as the fire spread quickly.
Mr and Mrs Stanley Haskett and their children Julia 17 and Donald 5 were burned to death when flames consumed their farm home in Shawnee Oklahoma Last night. Their son Hugh 13 escaped the blaze.

Don Bomba of Yorktown named the most popular student at St Edward's University. Bomba is a star athlete and campus figure receiving the award in Austin.
McAdoo tells John Garner after a conference that Garner’s presidential bid is gaining momentum. He notes California will send a Garner delegation to the Democratic convention and discusses finances but declines tax bill details. McAdoo spoke in Texas cities urging Garner support.
The Toreador student paper at Texas Tech protests long housework hours for students and proposes three hours daily for board alone and four hours for room and board. Editor Marshall Formby leads the campaign for shorter student work hours.
Abilene March 22. Taylor County Red Cross filed for two carloads totaling 144 900 pounds of flour milled from Palm Board wheat under a congressional relief set aside. An emergency relief committee would distribute the supply lasting about 90 days at 20 pounds per week for four families of five.
Tornadoes swept Alabama Georgia Tennessee Kentucky and South Carolina killing at least 214 people and injuring hundreds. Alabama reported 169 known dead as communities began to communicate and rescue efforts continued. Red Cross posted headquarters in Birmingham and Montgomery as damage assessments grew.
