Absentee balloting closed with six votes in the city charter amendment election. Voters will cast ballots Saturday at City Hall and Diaz Hall in San Felipe to decide removing Section 23a, which would end the five member water board and alter city limits from nine miles to about four miles excluding outlying farm lands. Any resident can vote regardless of property ownership.
The Senate voted down the LaFollette proposal to add five billion dollars to the 4 880 000 000 relief bill. Secretary Morgenthau stated the government stands ready to sell gold to foreign countries offering an advantageous deal.

The Merchants Association directors condemn the Wheeler Rayburn bill for public utility regulation as destructive and unworkable. They seek calmer legislation protecting consumers and investors and warn the measure could derail state regulatory duties and threaten holding companies.
A three year old San Felipe girl wandered from home to the residence of Gilberto Minjares at 420 Magnolia Street. She was cared for at the Minjares home for several hours before Patrolman Rodolfo Coronado found the frantic parents 14 blocks away.
Central Power and Light and subsidiaries served 179 communities in Texas reporting 1934 gross earnings of 7,169,778.95, up 364,991.25 from 1933. Electric revenues rose 162,270.57, ice revenue up 143,803.40, water revenue up 27,016.70. Operating costs climbed due to NRA rules. retirement provision rose to 755,952.24 and a 104,330.17 contingency reserve for storm damages was set aside. Net income after expenses stood at 261,271.49, enabling preferred stock dividends to resume August 1 after a February halt.
Miss Beulah Whistler daughter of Mr and Mrs M L Whistler was badly scalded Wednesday when she slipped on a waxed floor and spilled coffee on her right arm and leg. She rested Thursday morning at her Edna Street home off West Garfield Avenue.
Carrie Chapman Catt, 76, a pioneer of the suffrage movement, is seriously ill at her New Rochelle home. She is described as tired and threatened with appendicitis.
Miss Louise Anderson of Spofford remained unconscious in Brackettville after a Tuesday accident between Spofford and Brackettville. Dr J R Middlebrook returned from San Antonio to treat her concussion and broken collar bone. she may be moved to a Del Rio sanitarium when possible. Evelyn Vincent and Margaret Speed, Spofford girls in the same incident, were injured but not severely as their car overturned while returning home from Brackettville High School.
The Chamber of Commerce outlined plans for Fort Clark Day on April 12. Stores will offer special merchandise at soldier friendly prices. A golf tournament between Fort Clark players and locals will be held at the Del Rio Country Club followed by a dinner dance for officers in the same venue.
Since the first of March the Chamber of Commerce has mailed 500 folders on Del Rio to travel bureaus. The folders outline points of interest and local businesses and opportunities. Bureaus in San Antonio Houston El Paso and Denver requested them as spring tourism inquiries rise.
In Austin on March 21 the House voted 81 to 54 to print a minority report backing a bill raising the oil production tax to 6 cents per barrel. The measure imposes no change for wells producing 10 to 25 barrels daily.
Dr. F G Ebaugh of Denver told Dallas physicians that counting sheep or kangaroos keeps people awake and that sleep issues stem from emotional disturbance. He urged avoiding sedatives, recommending cold or warm wet packs and discussing life conflicts to address insomnia.
Royal Oak Michigan March 21 The truck that moves Father Charles E Coughlin s mail dumps twenty two sacks averaging four thousand letters per sack into a Shrine of the Little Flower mail room. By week s end four hundred thousand letters cards and telegrams had piled up while a staff of about two hundred twenty sifted the overflow. The mail flow marks the reach of his political influence and his church backed operation.
With 21 days elapsed in March, 29 new motor vehicles have been registered. Tax Assessor-Collector Lyle Almond's office reported an average of more than one car per day for the month to date.
Seven men including two former PWA engineers were indicted in Washington for conspiring to defraud the government in a 4.853 million Texas irrigation project. They allegedly forced redwood lumber pipes and sought 400000 dollars in profit. W arrants would be issued and trials set in the District of Columbia Supreme Court.
New official maps show State Highway No 3 now being paved from San Antonio to Alpine with two short gaps near Shumla and west of Longfellow under construction. Pavement is planned to reach Van Horn soon, with the route passing through Del Rio boosting local business via increased tourist traffic.
An intensive search for about 20 gypsies began in northern Texas and southern Oklahoma for questioning in the slaying of B. D. Wood, 27, at a gypsy camp near Bennington yesterday. The group, traveling in a caravan of five cars, was last seen near Denison, Texas.
