George Sorge, 63, was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary by a jury for assault with intent to murder Sutton sheriff Hutcherson and others testified Sorge threatened the sheriff after entering a bar nine miles north of here. Sorge claimed memory loss but owned a knife like the instrument used. Will Ward and R A Evans testified for the defense.
The local American Legion post special meeting set for Friday at 7 30 pm in the Chamber of Commerce was cancelled Friday morning. Fred Young state adjutant was to attend but wired he would not be in Del Rio and the Big Bend International Peace Park inspection trip was called off.
Secretary Hull told Representative Cole that removing the sanitary embargo on Argentine live stock would have no economic impact on American industry. He noted the plan covers only Patagonia sheep and would not extend to live animals, calling the effect insignificant due to domestic market growth and arguing the move counters protectionist motives.
The House adopted a resolution calling for a legislative investigation into the New London Consolidated School explosion.
