City officials applied to Harold Wagner for relief labor to construct a new concrete and steel bridge over San Felipe Creek to replace the iron and lumber structure. About 50 men will work five months. heavy steel has arrived. The bridge will span Canal Street and straighten the curve at the site costing about $15,000 not counting relief labor costs.
Del Rio bankers warn that March 27 is the deadline to exchange the fourth series Liberty bonds with terminal digits 5 6 and 7 for the new United States bonds at 2 percent interest. If not exchanged, these bonds will be cashed on April 15 when interest ends.
President Roosevelt issued four executive orders easing veteran economy rules to raise payments to widows and children. The liberalized allowances cost about 1.8 million dollars annually, transmitted to Congress on the last permissible day to alter the two year old regulations.
Fire early Tuesday burned the Santos Garza Dairy three miles southwest of the city on the Rio Grande. Garza said everything but the cows was a total loss with losses over $5 000 and no insurance. The arson claim followed a prior unexplained house fire near the international bridge. The blaze overwhelmed the department due to water shortages.
UWALDE March 19 The San Antonio customs district led the nation for seizures and arrests in a four day drive. Seizures totaled 360 and 114 persons were arrested. Liquor seizures numbered 113 and other items included 12 automobiles six boats 50 head of livestock and 190 misc items. Corpus Christi port filed 12 navigation law cases and penalties totaling 2640 with 41 boats boarded. Coast guard active crew filed 12 cases and 1800 in penalties. Port Aransas saw five cases after 30 boats searched with 510 penalties. Hidalgo District led seizures with 127 Laredo 108 Brownsville 67.
Miguel Angel Gutierrez a famed bull fighter was fatally gored through the chest Sunday in Mexico City. He died as onlookers observed a suspended fight honoring the fallen matador. He had previously fought in Piedras Negras arena with Alejandro del Hierro and Manuel Molina nearby.
Del Rio Park Board decided the Moore Park swimming pool will open between April 1 and April 15 depending on weather. Tickets remain at last year’s rates with a $5 family season pass for unmarried children under 21 at home, under-6 free, 6–12 at 5 cents, and over-12 at 10 cents. Frank Schmidt was named Moore Park superintendent.
Sedalia Missouri bank robbers held Assistant Cashier James Norlin prisoner during the night after seizing him on his way home. The Sedalia Bank and Trust Company reported about $16 000 taken by three men in the daytime opening. Norlin was a national guard officer.
A report from Brussels states that an airplane carrying Edouard Renard governor of French Equatorial Africa and six others is found with all occupants dead. The finding ends a long missing persons case tied to French colonial administration.
Austin legislators approved a measure exempting license fees for vehicles owned and used by school districts. The bill advances school transport funding and could affect district fleet costs.
The British schooner Laura with 104 passengers and 12 crew grounded today off Utila, Honduras, reporting a precarious condition.

Only 20 percent of Val Verde County car licenses had been issued by Monday. Tax records show 428 vehicles registered: 348 passenger cars, 32 farm trucks, 48 trucks. Almond warned registrations must rise or the final days before April 1 will be very busy. licenses due by April 2.

The move follows protests over Germany rearming with airplanes in breach of the Versailles Treaty. A spokesman warned of danger to Britain and world peace. French officials in Paris called Britain's protest weak.
Emil Fey the Austrian interior minister announces in a signed newspaper statement that the time is right to restore compulsory military service. He says conscription should be taken up by other states restricted by peace treaties.
Berlin reports a squadron of German bombers and pursuit planes flew over the city in the first military air maneuvers since the World War. A Reichswehr officer announced conscripts under the new compulsory law will be called to the colors next September.
Local liquor dealers halted sale of hard liquor late Monday and removed stock, offering only 3.2 beer. Sheriff A E Steinmetz said Tuesday that shops previously selling liquor have stopped and cleared their floors. Governor Allred said he would deploy rangers if local officers fail to enforce laws and ordered evidence gathering for possible ouster actions.
Federal internal revenue commissioner Guy T. Helvering wired Governor All red that a $1,000 tax from liquor dealers in Texas and other dry states in the Fifth Circuit may be suspended pending appeal after a Circuit Court decision held the tax invalid.
Two Spofford girls were seriously injured Monday afternoon when the car they rode home from school overturned between Spofford and Brackettville. A third girl escaped injury. All three attended Brackettville school and were said to have been passing a school bus when the crash occurred. The two injured were rushed to Brackettville hospital.
