Del Rio Independent School District collected 49 377 32 in 1931 taxes, about 72 percent of total 67 993, with January receipts 42 423 91 and Oct Nov Dec payments totaling 6 953 41. Delinquent 1931 taxes amount to 18 615 68, with 5 603 80 from 1930 also paid in January. Suits to collect the larger delinquent sum will follow preliminaries.
Mrs. Ida M. Darden of Fort Worth sought a writ of mandamus from the Texas Supreme Court to compel the State Democratic Executive Committee to accept her ballot application without naming a specific congressional seat. The committee had required filings for one of three designated places, which she and several other candidates challenge as unauthor ized.
The Treasury Department said on March 16 receipts totaled 55,611,451 dollars versus 88,691,515 the year before. For the month, collections reached 100,312,836 dollars, down from 106,254,321 dollars in the previous year period.

The House approved Representative La Guardia’s amendment raising the tax on incomes over $8,000 from five to seven percent. The bill initially set the rate at six percent, and passage of the amendment signals a victory for opponents of the manufacturers sales tax who seek revenue by alternative means.

Sonora March 18 The Sonora Wool and Mohair Company reports about 100000 pounds of mohair on hand. Charley Evans manager and Fred Earwood a Mohair advisory member of the Federal Farm Board are named stockholders in the warehouse.
State police said they will question Mr and Mrs Paul Thornberg once servants of Col and Mrs Charles A Lindbergh after the 20 month old Lindbergh baby was abducted in Franklin Park New Jersey. Police had previously cleared the pair. The couple drove about 60 miles the night of the abduction and a chisel and a wood tool used in the kidnapping were missing after they left. Colonel Lindbergh denied hiring a private detective agency.
Three Del Rio students at Texas University earned high honors in the College of Arts and Sciences Fall semester. The honorees are Mary Louise Nelson Mortimer Henry Bannister and Dick M Burrell. The list reflects both quality and quantity of work.
