Funeral services for Mrs. Alvin May Mills of Pandale were held Monday at First Methodist Church with Rev. L C Beasley officiating. Interment followed in Masonic Cemetery. she died Sunday in San Angelo after treatment. She was a longtime educator and first Pandale teacher known for Sharptop school. Her husband H J Y Mills, six sons, two sisters, two brothers and others survived.
Mrs. Nellie Buchanan assessor for Del Rio Independent School District urged Del Rioans to render their taxable property. Property not rendered by end of April will be placed on the unrendered roll with valuations fixed by the board of equalization. Protests over valuations will not be needed.
Judge Robert J. McMillan sentenced Gilberto Baltazar to three months and Francisco Garcia to four months for falsely claiming U S citizenship. Both were arrested in Del Rio by immigration inspectors. Baltazar had a birth certificate and Garcia an notary affidavit, both found false, sentences to set an example for others.
The governor's suit to halt horse race bookie shops by cutting off their information source was postponed in District Court. A temporary injunction was granted last August, and trial was set for this week on the merits. Attorneys were not advised when it would be called.
London dispatch reports Foreign Commissar Maxim Litvinoff attacking Adolf Hitler in a League of Nations session. Litvinoff says Hitler uses fear of Russia as a smoke screen while preparing aggression against other states.
Secretary Ickes said the 20 million dollar Lower Colorado River reclamation project is for flood control and irrigation with power as only incidental. Texas power companies sought to block the project, asserting hydro electric generation was primary.
Horace Fawcett, a Val Verde County ranchman, broke his left leg and suffered a two inch cut when a glancing ax blow struck him Monday at his Vinegarone country ranch. He was rushed to Del Rio to stay with his parents, E. K. and Mrs. Fawcett, after the incident and spent a fairly easy night despite shock.
New York state officials asked the Supreme Court for a swift decision on the constitutionality of the 1933 minimum wage law for women and minors. The state court of appeals had declared the act unconstitutional on March 6.
Gabriel D'Annunzio, famed Italian poet and novelist, long ill with influenza, received visitors for an hour on Saturday in Gardone Riviera. His physician said he remains feverish but is expected to recover.
Kinney County grand jury in Brackettville returned three indictments on Monday. Nicolas Falcon faced charges of assault with intent to murder Hamon Everett, perjury, and driving a car while intoxicated. R. R. Martin served as grand jury foreman.
Dr John R Brinkley is due back today from Beta Sylvia North Carolina where he met an architect about remodeling his childhood home purchased months ago. The grounds span 3290 acres and after landscaping the couple and their son Johnnie will use the house as a summer home with plane travel having preceded them.
Hong Kong reported a maritime disaster as four Chinese passenger boats towed on a river into the South China Sea caught fire near Shiuhing. About 100 believed dead and 300 of 500 passengers missing after the blaze.
New York police announced the arrest of seven men and three women at an upper west side apartment as the breakthrough in solving a two year old armored pay truck robbery worth 42700 dollars. Officers seized rifles shotguns pistols thousands of rounds of ammunition and a short wave radio transmitter.
