John Roland Jack Shelton 42, railroad engineer, died of pneumonia Tuesday morning in a Houston hospital after months of illness. He worked for Southern Pacific Railway since 1932 and is to be buried in Del Rio with services at Doran Chapel. He was born December 17 1894 in Tyler Texas. Survivors include his widow Classie Vasbinder, a daughter, brother Jim Shelton of San Antonio, and uncle Bedford Shelton of Kingsville.

Five year totals: premiums 237 423 and losses 56 696. The 1937 fire credit is 25 cents.

They called for expansion of projects, removal of local funding requirements, and continuation of Army Engineers in surveying and building flood-control works.
Dr John R. Brinkley received a $1,000 judgment in a federal court libel case against Regal Press Publishing Co. The settlement includes access to a 15 word story with pictures to be published in Radio Guide. Brinkley said he sought vindication of his name, not money.

George Abdouch age 23 escaped unharmed after his auto struck another vehicle in Omaha, rolled over four times and landed upright. He opened the door, stepped out and brushed himself off.
Detroit workers strike shuts down four of the citys largest hotels including the Statler. Five thousand strikers ordered by court to evacuate Chrysler plants remain seated as Detroit labor actions unfold.
Der Aneriff in Berlin demanded President Roosevelt intervene over insults to Germany at a New York anti Nazi rally. It tied the event to a dispatch about Rep Dickstein attacking German policy in Washington while linking to Fritz Kuhn and the German American League push to arrest him on a charge of alien military organization in New York.
London dispatch reports the Duke of Windsor plans an Easter reunion with Wallis Warfield Simpson and a possible wedding to follow in late April or early May. An Austrian informant said the former king may announce plans from Enzesfeld Austria as a brief Easter trip nears Paris. John Cox of San Angelo uses a quirky rule to fish when the sign is in the feet. He caught a 51 pound yellow catfish on the Concho River using a bank frog on a No. 2 hook, weighing 45.1 pounds after butchering, feeding 28 people. Cox says heavier fish crown the Conchos and nearby rivers, planning future barbecues and continuing river and almanac fishing, aided by his brother Morgan Cox.
In Houston 3500 workers received petitions pledging support against the CTO driven unionization effort at Passown refineries. A separate report notes a fatal air transport incident in Greenville Alabama with a parachute jump resulting in the pilot's death after seven passengers survived.
Two survivors of the Upton County ranch shooting showed improvement while investigators prepared to file charges. Russell Bell 39 of Fort Worth and Cody Bell 43 of Christoval were wounded as the Bell family relatives died at the Rankin area home. Mrs Mary Bell 71 and son Wiley 46 were killed. Funeral services were held in Midland. Alan Fraser Alpine district attorney was to file charges in Rankin. Russell Bell remained under guard in a San Angelo hospital.
Houston March 16 five to unionize the oil industry will open a CIO headquarters here this week with the arrival of Harvey C Fremming president of the International Oil Field Gas Well and Refinery Workers Union local leaders said Sunday. Fremming may be joined by Philip Murray and Charles P Howard as the CIO committee oversees the drive. Training delays in Washington could postpone his Monday arrival.
Regents selected Clarence Addison Dykstra as the successor to Dr. Glenn Frank at the University of Wisconsin. The appointment would allow Dykstra to depart Cincinnati city management and return to long held academic work across four universities.
Dr William Henry Doty 66 a Sanderson physician and former Del Rio resident died Sunday in Del Rio. Funeral services were held Monday at 4 pm in Doran Chapel with ministers from Del Rio and Sanderson officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery. pallbearers from Del Rio and Sanderson attended.
A seven year old girl, Mareh Dols Jean Godisby, was badly burned while playing on her Dallas porch. Her dress caught fire from a lit match near newspapers, and she was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
William Green told a Senate hearing the American Federation of Labor backs President Roosevelt’s court bill while urging a non partisan renewal. Senator Robinson predicted passage this session and suggested constitutional amendments might also be considered.
Longview reporters recount that two suspects were jailed here and another woman held as material witness in the Marion County sheriff’s death. The widow of Sheriff Alvis Brown, 32, testified about a nightclub plot and a gunman’s role. District Attorney John Cook reviewed the woman’s account at Jefferson.
