Six absentee votes in the city election to be held March 23 had been cast by noon Saturday at City Hall. Wednesday is the last day for absentee balloting. Del Rio voters will decide two charter amendments including removing the water board requirement and redrawing city boundary lines to shrink the nine mile area by about half.
With two weeks and one day left for car license payments, only 15 per cent of last year's registrations had been completed through Friday. Tax Collector-Assessor Lyle Almond said 297 vehicles were registered, including 240 passenger cars, 31 trucks, and 26 farm trucks. registrations close April 1.

Nine anti Long members of the East Baton Rouge Parish police jury lost an appeal to the Federal Court seeking an injunction. They aimed to stop 13 new members appointed by Governor O K Allen from serving in official capacity.
Berlin reports a secret cabinet session where compulsory military training was decreed and Hitler announced Germany’s release from Versailles obligations. The planned peace army would field 12 corps with about 480,000 men, far beyond the 100,000 permitted. Hitler urged Germans to accept the nation’s new military course.
Washington reports three major industries coal textiles and autos face strike threats as William Green of the AFL warns the Wagner bill must pass to avoid urging workers to patience. Coal contracts expire March 31 and John L. Lewis vows no miners work April 1 without new deals. Saline County recovers as water subsides. Meramec floodwaters inundate southern St. Louis County cottages with minor damage. Major impacts near Kennett, Pisk, and St. Francis include over 50,000 acres underwater and 2,000 families needing Red Cross shelter.
Austin lawmaker Stanford Payne visits Del Rio over the weekend. He secured a 7500 dollar appropriation for Quemado Valley schools through the Legislature. Payne is praised by State Parks Board chairman D. E. Colp for his Austin actions and expects the governor to sign the funding bill within days.
Payments of city taxes Friday brought the total collected over the past week to about $6 000 it was estimated Saturday. The amount came largely from Del Rioans with home loans and reflects payments received.
Ray Brownfield Hereford breeder sold four registered young bulls to the Babicora Development Company owned by William Randolph Hearst and associates. The bulls shipped from Saucer Block to Hearst California ranch for breeding up stock on the Pacific coast. Price reported at $1000 each.
The Sheep and Goat Raisers' Association executive committee voted 27 to 2 in San Angelo to merge with the Texas Wool and Mohair Growers' Association, forming the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers' Association. The plan sets dues at one tenth of a cent per pound of wool or mohair, limits the presidency, and expands the executive committee to up to 50 members.
The Senate approved an amendment to the work relief bill extending the Emergency Relief Administration until June 30 next year. In Terrell a grade crossing accident near Elmo killed Virgil Ward and likely fatally injured Bob Roycroft. Dallas voters select one candidate from 60 to fill the Mrs. Samir T. Hughes vacancy amid a light turnout.
Posses from Cooke and Denton counties search the Gainesville area for Raymond Hamilton after a stolen car is abandoned here following gunfire with an Oklahoma constable near Love County. The pursuit began when Hamilton fled across the border.
A severe dust storm swept across North and West Texas spreading hundreds of miles and reducing visibility. Temperatures dropped as dust clouds reached the Panhandle after midnight and moved into the Dallas area by noon.
Washington March 16 government agents in a treasury supervised crackdown on law violations reached 2000 arrests today. Treasury reports added 161 arrests, while customs bureau field operations counted 258 arrests up to last night, with further recaps pending.
A charted Senate NRA inquiry shows former allies Don Richberg and Senator Robert La Follette now at odds. La Follette accuses Richberg of aiding administration failures while Richberg defends his role amid progressives split and industry deals.
