John S Burke of B Altman Co. calls the bill a scheme to gauge taxpayers and says the city would pay 34 000 000 more than it would receive. Smith County administrator Mrs. Elizabeth F. Gardner dispatched A. C. Spivey to Gresham to investigate Floyd's case and determine donation recipients.
Washington reports President Roosevelt cautioned against using paper money to meet government expenses as the House moved toward conference on the independent offices appropriations bill. He warned that habitual debt payment with such money could set no limit to future use.

H F McElroy city manager of Kansas City Missouri survived an extortion attempt demanding twenty five thousand dollars under death threats. He spent the deadline night alone at home and notified police. His daughter Mary McElroy was kidnapped in 1933 and released for thirty thousand dollars.
The American Legion mass meeting set for Thursday at 8 at the courthouse is expected to draw many veterans and families. Edward A. Hayes urges a strong 15th anniversary membership drive from March 1 to 15, aiming to boost local posts. J E Puquay predicts local post membership will rise from 53 to 100 soon, with at least 40 new dues likely paid immediately. All veterans eligible are urged to attend.

Thirteen sailors recount ghastly hours after the Japanese torpedo boat Tomozuru capsized with 113 aboard near Sasebo Japan. Survivors describe being trapped in the overturned hull with many dead bodies nearby and the grave search continuing as dawn broke. Sixty six bodies have been recovered.
