In Henderson County a 40 man coalition of stockmen forms the Henderson County Cattle Raisers Protective Association to counter modern thefts where rustlers use automobile trailers. John Jackson of Malakoff chairs the committee with Jess Miller, Murdock Royall, and Billie Riddlesperger. A March 16 meeting will finalize the organization as L. G. Phares of the highway patrol pledges patrol support and Miles B. Smith prepares a special bill of sale for legitimate cattlemen.
The Ameri can Legion reports adding 50 members to reach 150 total after a week long drive. Tonight a House of Friendship meeting will decide the winning team in the drive with a banquet planned for the losers and Billie Vallie to entertain, famed for his Sonny Boy role in Mammy with Al Jolson.
In Austin on March 13 the University of Texas learned it holds the copyright to The Eyes of Texas. Ed Nunnally, ex-students association chairman, announced the grant after Washington advised approval. Oscar Pax and a Boston publisher had previously withdrawn their claims to the song.
The Supreme Court today upheld the state cigarette tax as constitutional in a case brought by the Texas Tobacco Co. The decision was delivered from Austin on March 13, and the report notes a dust storm affecting Hugoton Kansas and nearby areas with poor visibility.

Value of oil in state owned tide lands estimated at one billion dollars. An investigation of all such properties within one thousand feet of the Pacific shore has been ordered.
Douglas A. Newton announces candidacy for Val Verde County attorney as a Democrat. A Del Rio native, 30, he graduated from Del Rio High in 1925 UT in 1932 and was admitted to the bar in 1935. He has served as postman and a longtime school administrator.
Del Rio physician Dr. W. P. Meredith spoke on Analysis of 500 Obstetric Cases in General Practice before about 40 physicians at the Nine County Medical Society quarterly meeting in Eagle Pass. Attendees included Drs. Elizabeth Donaldson D A York Thos M Johnson and H B Ross from Del Rio. society comprises Val Verde Uvalde Medina Maverick Terrell Edwards Real Kinney and Zavala Counties.
Radio messages report the loss of eight men in an explosion sinking the steamer Marchigiano in the Red Sea near Ban Francisco. Ten injured survivors were rescued by rescue ships.
Kinney County Sheriff J H Ballantyne was found dead Friday morning in his Brackettville home from a gunshot wound. Dr A P Utterback said the bullet entered above the heart and lodged in the bed. a pistol lay beside the bed. An inquest ruled death by gunshot. Ballantyne served six years as sheriff and tax collector for Kinney County and was survived by his wife Minnie Rowland Ballantyne and daughter Minnie Lee Ballantyne.
In Briel le New Jersey Frank Goble and James Britton, once close friends, clashed after Britton lent a car. A skunk hidden in the rumble seat caused a strong odor and a disorderly conduct case. Britton was fined five dollars and fifty cents in costs, with a suspended five dollar fine if the car was cleaned.
New York showman Billy Rose arrives with his staff to direct Fort Worth Centennial Frontier Celebration. He brings Albert Johnson as scenic designer for Jumbo and promises attractions including Shirley Temple Mae West Guy Lombardo Jack Benny and a three ring circus with a Wild West show and a 100 yard square swimming pool. Fort Worth gears up for the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show opening tonight.
If candidate John W. Bosworth is nominated and elected, Virginia would send another Democratic baby senator to Washington. Bosworth, age 28, cannot take his seat until August 1937 when he reaches the required age of 30. He lives near Senator Holt, and their fathers have been close friends for years.
The Rev. Arden M. Rockwood a Pasadena pastor aged 61 begins a private cross country trek from Pasadena on January 21 to reach Amherst College for its 40th annual class reunion. Walking 25 miles daily six days a week he faces blisters arch pain and occasional bus rides yet aims to finish unaided. He traveled via El Paso to Roswell and will continue through Clovis and Amarillo toward the Corn Belt hoping to arrive in Amherst on time.
A fireworks factory on Yaipa Island, MACRO China, exploded today killing 23 Chinese women and children and wounding many others. Rescue efforts faced heavy smoke and delays as crews fought the blaze and searched rubble.

A high authority said Italy declined to impose sanctions on Germany for sending troops into Rhineland. Italy demanded that the Ethiopian question be settled first. Britain said the door was still open for a conciliatory gesture.
Eight more entrants join the yard and garden contest sponsored by the Garden Club and the Chamber of Commerce bringing total to 31. The new entrants are Mrs. Cathryn Wayman Mrs. Clera Barton Mrs. Roger Gilles Mrs. H B Treft Mrs. G A MacDonald Mrs A Madison Mrs John Almond Jr and Mrs Clarence Herreford. Application blanks were distributed at Garden Club Rotary Club and Lions Club meetings this week and may be obtained at the Chamber of Commerce. Blanks will be sent to all women clubs and schools. The contest closes in the latter part of May.
In San Antonio on March 13 the Veterans of Foreign Wars case from Howard County against carnival operators W. H. Rice and Jack Ruback was moved to 45th District Court, Bexar County. The petition seeks 50 percent of net profits from the Industrial and Farmers' Exposition show in Big Spring for a week starting October 14 and their share of the final day’s profits, plus 50 percent of $1,032.72 allegedly withdrawn from a bank with no accounting.
Austin March 13 The Railroad Commission issued notices for a March 21 hearing to consider adopting special field rules and to prevent oil and gas waste in the Seven Sisters region.
