103 licenses were issued Tuesday by Lyte Almond to bring Val Verde County totals to 2883. The daily average is about 100, risking long lines, as officials urge prompt license issuance. Automobile licenses sold Tuesday totaled 205 versus 78 a year earlier, while truck licenses were 26 compared with 62.

Mrs Laura Alice Babb widow of W I Babb dies Tuesday afternoon at Williams Sanitarium. She rode in pastures on horseback and managed a large Langtry Pecos ranch after her husband’s 1934 death. Born in California, she lived 80 years this October and leaves eight children, many grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday with interment at Langtry Cemetery.
The Del Rio Independent School District will hold a trustee election on April 4. Terms of two board members expire in April: Frank Walton and J. A. Forman, both serving three-year terms. Tom Miller was selected as election judge.
Secretary Morgenthau announced that the treasury's March borrowing of 1.25 billion dollars was oversubscribed by five to seven times. Governor Allred declared Thursday as Texas Mother in-law Day, extending a custom begun in Amarillo by Gene Howe.

Fred R Ward a Del Rio High School vocational agriculture teacher and Fifth Annual Vocational Project Show winner guests of the club.
The State Highway Commission called bids for grading and drainage on Highway No. 3 four miles west of the Pecos River. Bids will be opened March 17. The projects total $2,550,000 in addition to $2,175,000 let on March 10 and 11, bringing the month’s total to $4,725,400 and possibly $5,000,000 with additions.
March 4 report from Washington states Senator King of Utah proposed trimming the 10-year rural electrification program to a total of 100 million dollars.
Evelyn Hastings, 22, will marry Mohron Mar Kwamin Ntstse Bressendo, 44, a Negro African chief and prince patriarch of the Universal Church of Africa. They will wed first at a London register office, then a second ceremony in Africa with feast and dancing. Hastings aims to visit his father, aged 104, after the rites.
New York reports a threat of a nationwide building service strike as strikers clash with police. Chicago headquarters warns it could call out every building service worker in the United States if needed. Marching demonstrators riot, smashing windows and trying to replace workers in 1,400 buildings guarded by heavy police.

The 81st anniversary of the Fifth United States Cavalry was marked with a Fort Clark reception. Plans for the annual maneuvers in April call for 1100 men 60 officers from Fort Clark Fort Brown Fort Ringgold Fort Bliss joining in Del Rio Marfa with a large parade and field exercise. Col. Lee O Connor attended the reception and is noted to be with the Organized Reserves in San Antonio.
The worst dust storm since 1935 hit Eastern New Mexico and the Pecos Valley with a heavy black pall over the plains. Weather officials warned it could match last year’s severity in the area and the dust plume spread across the region.
Incumbent Thos. M. Johnson faces no opposition for mayor in the April 7 city election. Seven candidates total for office after Frank Rose’s petition was received by City Clerk E. F. Howard. Other filings include H. Mike Averill Otto Koog Edward LeRoy Chas. N. Daniel Frank Walton and Frank Rose. Ballots go to the printer. a record vote is expected. Last election saw 1,883 ballots cast.
