In New York on June 8 a group of WPA workers sighted by Mrs. Rose Goldschiager of the Bronx rescued rent money scattered from her fifth floor apartment window. The stash totaled 52 dollars in five tens and two ones, which the workers retrieved after pausing their task.

The San Felipe Independent School District raised the tax rate from 95 cents to $1 per $100 valuation of real and personal property. The board enacted the 1935 36 tax rate at their January 21, 1936 meeting and recorded it in the minutes.

Defendants named include William A Harding Frank P McElwrath Perry A Welty Charles R Osberg L C Hammond H W Cole and James P Barry.
Secretary Dern told Rep. Maury Maverick that government expenditures at San Antonio posts last year totaled about 36.5 million dollars. He noted typical annual spending around 19.5 million, boosted by 17 million for relief and CCC programs, and estimated property valuations for Brooks Field Kelly Field and others. Maverick said Dern would attend the opening of a new Army hospital in San Antonio, date yet to be fixed.

Fort Worth hosts the annual Firemen's convention with Fire Chief F. J. Schmidt and three Del Rio volunteers in attendance. Delegates include Earl Scudday Alfred Bochat and Roy Chastang. Schmidt and Chastang traveled by car Saturday while the others left Sunday by train.
Nationally known educators were named as principal speakers for the third state curriculum conference in Austin set for June 11 to 13. Teachers and school administrators from across Texas will attend, sponsored by the Department of Education and the University of Texas.

Panhandle June 8. State Senator Clint C Small focused on filing the Democratic primary slate. He failed to locate the county Democratic chairman W L Boyles and instead registered with C P McCullogh, secretary of the Douglass for Senator Club, and Carson Canty party official.
Republicans in Cleveland on June 8 debated Alf Landon as a leading choice for the 21st convention. Senator Borah warned against stopping London and said no coalition is settled, leaving delegation members to decide their path as campaign momentum grows.
In Cleveland on June 8 the Texas delegation decided to cast all 25 ballots for Alf M Landon of Kansas as presidential nominee on the first and subsequent ballots. The caucus, led by H E Exum of Amarillo, instructed R B Creager to support Landon. Creager also proposed delaying action on the vice presidential pick. Orville Burlington of Wichita Falls joined the platform committee.
At Frank Knox's headquarters in Illinois William J. Donovan of New York stated that Landon leads are overestimated and predicted he will not be nominated on the first ballot. If Landon fails on three ballots he will be lost, Donovan said.
Warrants were issued for Rep Marion A. Zioncheck and his wife Rubye Nix Zioncheck on assault charges by Police Judge John P. McMahon. Service will be delayed pending examination of Zioncheck's mental condition after a scuffle with Mrs. Benjamin Scott Young over a sublet apartment.
