Virtually all Americans desiring to leave Madrid evacuated today to Valencia where they were taken aboard a United States cruiser. Ninety three Americans had left the embassy. about 70 remained. About 100 U S citizens still in Madrid were unwilling to leave.
Coleman notes on his 90th birthday J H Green recalls post Civil War cattle drives from Fort Worth to Kansas and Missouri. Born in Bedford County Tennessee he joined the Confederate army at 15 settled near Fort Worth in 1869 drove 1150 head to Baxter Springs in 1871 trading crippled cattle to Indians to save employers money. The Greens settled on a farm in eastern Coleman County in 1877 and kept a 52 year running clock from their first home built in timber shipped from Fort Worth.
Dallas July 31 Kal Segrist former Texas League baseball player who ran for State Commissioner of Agriculture announced he would support George B Terrell in the run off and campaign for him He said he would not tell friends how to vote but believes Terrell is the most reliable capable and safest man for the office Segrist noted Dallas and Hico gave him majorities over all opponents.
Castle Gandolfo Italy July 31 Bishop Michael Gallagher superior father of Rev Coughlin radio priest said Coughlin's political activity was not raised in his audience with the Pope.
Partly cloudy tonight and Saturday with a warmer high on Saturday. The yesterday high reached 94 degrees, while the overnight low dipped to 76. This morning’s low was 73 degrees.
United States experts touring Sweden report that cooperative stores factories and housing projects have reduced monopoly and trusts. The Swedish movement handles a $100 million annual retail business with low prices and profit sharing for members. More than 2 million Swedes shop there, with 4 144 stores serving 568 000 member families.
Wheeling West Virginia shows a surplus in the first annual city accounts after adopting the City Manager form a year ago. City Manager Harry Humphreys credits common sense government for ending red ink with a $79.22 surplus, reversing a previous $106,260 deficit.

Dubbed the Alphabetic Accounting Machine, it reduces errors to roughly one in a million by cross checking each name amount and listing in multiple ways.
Washington reports a new neutrality issue arising from the Spanish civil war over export of war materials. France faces internal division between Liberal and Conservative elements over arming the Spanish government. The United States has not raised the issue but studies the latest neutrality law and arms boycott in Italy and Ethiopia.
In San Juan on July 31 eight Puerto Rican nationalists were convicted of conspiring to overthrow the U S government. They received individualized prison terms from two to six years amid shouts by the crowd demanding down with Yankee imperialists.
In Havre Montana on July 31 thousands of weary men fought to control a forest fire that had scorched 3100 acres in Mission canyon. Fire crews feared shifting winds could push flames toward nearby mining camps.
Thomas Cooper of Casper, president of the Wyoming Wool Growers Association, charges the Federal government plans to administer the public domain to devalue state and private land. He urges growers to block sale of about 306000 acres of Wyoming land under options. Cooper criticizes Wallace and Ickes as greedy in a West centering struggle. Several hundred wool growers from Wyoming and nearby areas attend a two day convention.
ROMF July 31 Italy accepted in principle an invitation to a Locarno powers conference. The tacit reply signals Italy’s intention to rejoin European collaboration after talks with Britain France and Belgium. Italy proposed preparing the conference by exchanges through ordinary diplomatic channels.
Dallas July 31 One dollar of every three loaned this year by the Resettlement Administration to low income Texas farmers went to livestock. Of $9 0 587 000 loaned to 29 053 borrowers livestock purchases totaled 2 466 404. Purchases included 17 311 mules 9 288 horses 7 932 milk cows 13 926 hogs 1 263 sheep 1 251 head of other livestock 80 186 chickens and 5 626 other fowls. Co operative groups financed bought 21 jacks 10 stallions 15 bulls and two boars all pure bred. Loans also financed 12 tractors 12 disc plows 8 harrow plows 11 power binders 4 hammer mills 2 feed mills 5 binders one gasoline engine two orchard cultivating outfits one truck one peanut and grain thresher. Hidalgo County has the most cooperative loans nine. Maverick County eight. Collin Grayson and Franklin four each. Kaufman three. Loan amounts ranged from 60 for a Jersey bull in Palis County to 1930 for a tractor disc and breaking plow in Hidalgo County.
Two men were detained in Val Verde County jail by the sheriff's department for investigation. They are suspected of passing forged or hot checks and are being looked into in connection with an automobile theft case in Pampa, Texas.
London police court heard George Andrew McMahon testify he planned to shoot himself but threw the revolver in the roadway as a protest against a wrongful imprisonment. He had been jailed on a criminal libel charge that was later quashed.

Diplomas and credits for work in the Del Rio Summer school were awarded Friday marking the close of a nine week session. Thirty four pupils completed the program, including four seniors who had not finished one subject last May. The seniors Pauline Billings Marjorie Kennedy Walter Ward Law and Booby Winston earned high school diplomas.
Refugees from Camp Walton reached Valparaiso reporting an 85 mile wind as the hurricane center struck around 8 this morning. US Weather Bureau logged 90 to 100 mph winds at 8 am, roofs blown off and craft driven ashore near Panama City. Coast guard reported a nine man crew unable to reach Valparaiso before the storm hit. Shore facilities prepared as warnings issued and naval air station moved planes to hangars. Fort Burrance and Fort Pickens evacuated and secured.
University of Texas officials see the Centennial Exposition as the nucleus of a permanent museum. Director William L. McGill reported exhibits valued at 196531.82 for insurance, with 17290 more items received. About 60 percent belong to the university and will join the Texas Memorial Museum when the campus structure is completed. construction on the first unit is planned at about 500000. The value excludes rare books and the Swenson coin collection valued at 75000.
FORT WORTH July 11 Julien C Hyer Townsend club supported candidate withdrew from the 12th district congressional run off against Congressman Fritz Granham He cited antagonism between the Townsend movement and the presidency candidacy as a factor.
In Franklin on July 31 a white 13 year old girl was attacked by Joe Jones an African American man. He was sentenced to life imprisonment after an upstate jury found him guilty. A crowded courtroom watched as the judge read the verdict with authorities keeping order. The state had sought the death penalty.
Julius Bohannon, the leader of a prison breakout in Texas, was returned to Oklahoma custody today by McAlester penitentiary officials. He remained calm when apprehended and stated that death row awaits him.
