A Mexican girl formerly employed at a local business paid an $18 fine on a misdemeanor theft charge in Justice Court. She allegedly stole two rings from her workplace. Sheriff Steinmetz testified the rings were found in a wood stove, almost melted, after he located them amid ashes.
Five men jailed for investigation were released after Willie Crossley pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge and paid a 14 dollar total fine. The party, returning from New Orleans to Palm Springs, stated four members had traveled from Palm Springs and met Thomas Crossley in New Orleans. Thomas Crossley had eight years of a life sentence in Louisiana on murder, with parole granted.
Kerrville July 26 The condition of Judge L Wallace presiding judge of the 38th judicial district who has been ill for several weeks was reported to be improving Friday Judge Wallace was taken to the Medical and Surgical Hospital in San Antonio some time ago.

Dallas July 26 Discussions at the third annual chamber of commerce school opened with questions on why average farmers struggle to produce good tasting butter. Grady Shipp of Plainview proposed addressing government programs in Friday lectures while Richard Knight urged branding butter with producer names to encourage care.
In Hoquiam Washington on July 26 guards squads patrolled key centers after a riot tied to a month long lumber strike. About 500 sympathizers stoned a soldiers company, a guardsman was injured by a rock, and troops charged with fixed bayonets to disperse rioters.
Ascencio Constancia, indicted with Bob Bates by the District Court grand jury on May 3, 1923, for the murder of Customs Inspector James A. Wallen, was lodged in the Piedras Negras jail after being brought from Tia Juana. He is also accused of killing Judge Jose Garcia Villarreal in 1931 and fled after the shooting. Local authorities doubt he will be returned to the United States to face Wallen’s murder charge.
In Matamoros a standoff between reform factions continued as Federal soldiers and customs authorities watched. More than 1,000 armed Agrarians camped near the city pressure leaders for action in talks with General Gabriel Cervera and Mayor Rafael Munguia. Cervera awaited word from Mexico City on future steps.
A special train carrying 10 or 12 CCC recruits passed Del Rio on the Southern Pacific at 6 30 p m bound for a camp in Arizona. The westbound passenger train at 7 30 p m carried two coaches of recruits. Each coach held 60 of the tree nurses.
Two San Felipe men accused of a street fight offered to pay $5 toward their $12.70 fine each. Acting Chief Herman Huebner refused and ordered full payment or jail. Friends sought funds to cover the remaining amounts.
City Commissioners Averill and Koog report pumping plant projects totaling 114000 and a San Felipe Creek bridge at Canal Street under way. Concrete pouring on the third bent completed with two more bents to go. A waterworks system for the San Felipe suburb to begin soon at an initial cost of 62000 funded by bonds voted September 8 last year. A new pumping plant at the main spring and a 6000 pipeline to Garden Parks, feeding a private line to Dr. John R. Brinkley’s Palm Drive home in Hudson Gardens, are planned under city administration.
John Shely Harold Keele and Wayne Beaty were charged with burglary and each placed under 590 bond at a Thursday hearing before Justice of the Peace J. P. Aderhold. None could meet bond and the trio was remanded to Val Verde County jail as property stolen across weeks from city residences was recovered by the sheriff. Sheriff A. E. Steinmetz called the arrest the department's best recent work.
Mrs Cora J Cornelius 37 wife of Fred N Cornelius of Quemade Valley died at a local tourist camp Friday at 6 am after illness since January. She had been in Del Rio for treatment for several weeks and had just returned home to see her roof blown off by the March 21 tornado. The body will be taken to Shamrock for burial with tentative overland plans to San Angelo.
