The July hurricane swept the Texas coast from Galveston to Corpus Christi with a likely 30 plus fatalities. Bay City and Sargent areas report around 17 missing, ten in Matagorda Bay, and five killed in Morelos Jackson County. Communications were cut as the storm wrecked homes, bridges, and crops.

Mrs Earwood Succumbs After Illness on Ranch

Mrs Laura Arvella Earwood 35 wife of Elwin Earwood of the Devil's River country died Wednesday at 4 pm in a local hospital after a month of critical illness. She was born in Scurry and later lived in Menard before moving to a ranch north of Comstock. Survivors include her husband five children and her parents three sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were set for Thursday at 5 pm at Doran Funeral Home with Rev L B Gilbert officiating and Westlawn Cemetery to receive the interment.

Texas Lutheran convention to convene in Vernon

Two hundred fifty leaders and other Lutheran Church representatives from Texas are expected for the annual Texas district convention of the Lutheran Church in the Missouri and Ohio Synod. The event will be hosted jointly by St. Paul Church in Vernon and Zion Church near Lockett, August 17.

Several thousand feeder lambs were contracted in West Texas at five cents a pound for delivery September 1 to 10. Halbert and Hoggett of Mertzon sold 3,500 mutton lambs at five cents for that window. Clinton Ramsey bought 1,500 mutton lambs from Mertzon sellers. Sam H Nay and son report shipments of vealer calves to California and note calves not bought have been shot by the government.

Dr John R Brinkley plans a Kansas governor bid starting July 31 arriving from his yacht to broadcast for seven evenings. W. L Cotton of Dalhart an electrician from Rock Island claims he cannot carry a tune yet he wrote and composed a song titled Take a Little Time for Loving with both words and melody. Theo Ashlock provided the piano arrangement after Cotton hummed the tune. He notes the title came from a belief America moves too fast and that sentiment inspired the work.

Ver Verde County voters set for busy primary polling day

Val Verde County residents will vote in 14 precincts Saturday for the general primary with 13 Democratic and one Republican polling locations. Rev Black and Son Bitten by Rabid Dog in Texas

The Rev James F. Black, former pastor of the Church of Christ in Del Rio, and his son James Black Jr were bitten by a rabies infected dog in San Benito. Both are in Austin receiving Pasteur treatment after the dog’s head examination confirmed rabies. Thirteen people were bitten in total by the same dog last week.
