Confusion surrounds a Chicago hospital mix up where Mrs William Watkins and Mrs Charles Bamberger received each other’s newborns. The babies bore mislabelled names on their backs and the error persisted for ten days before parents realized the mistake, raising questions about custody and verification procedures.
Federal officers have handled several immigration and liquor cases over the past days. Three men faced arriagnment on charges of smuggling alcohol into the area with bonds set at 1000 each. Extela and Maria Guerra will wed Mario Gonzalez and Refugio Garcia Gonzales, with Garcia a drug clerk and Gonzalez a printer. The couples, longtime city residents, plan to depart for Monterey after the ceremony. Invitations were issued by Gustavo Guerra and family.
The eight room residence of George Newton at East Garfield and Berrowm was saved from destruction by fire at 2 15 Saturday afternoon. Fire crews rushed to the scene as neighbors and motorists gathered. Mrs Newton said she was at the dining table when the blaze was discovered by L B Wilkes, an employee on the Newton ranch. The barn lies nearby and pigeons circled above the smouldering ruins before flying away.
In Cleveland, July 26 James Porcilo a member of a family reputed to control bootleg alcohol and sugar traffic was likely fatally shot by gunmen who trapped him in a grocery store He was the second of seven brothers known as On the spot Big Joe Porello a gang leader and an aide were killed three weeks earlier.
The city engineering department issued a building permit to Del Rio Lumber Company for open sheds 10x72 at a cost of 260 dollars. A separate permit was issued to Jose Gomez for installing a gasoline pump and tank costing 159 dollars.
Forest O Brine and Dale Jackson piloted the Greater St Louis into a sixth day aloft seeking a new refueling endurance mark. The flight aims to reclaim the record from the Hunter Brothers and their City of Chicago.

SAN FRANCISCO July 26 district attorney Prickett who convicted Mooney and Billings of San Francisco posse bombing says John McDonald was bribed to alter testimony. A hearing on Billings pardon is set for Tuesday. WASHINGTON July 26 public health service scientists report Jamaica Ginger containing carbolic acid as the probable cause of paralysis from the drink.
In St Louis on July 26 the office of Harry Brundige of the St Louis Star was broken into and papers taken. Brundige testified before a Chicago grand jury probing gangland murder and alleged newspapermen racketeering. A $100 reward is offered for burglars.
Funeral services were held for Wade Shaw a 19 year old Carrizo Springs native and State Highway Department employee who died from injuries after a truck sideswiped another near San Antonio. He passed away in a San Antonio hospital about a week after the accident.
The Evening News vows to stop running candidate notices for all offices during the primary. It states ads will no longer be paid for by candidates, seeks to be fair and independent, and aims to maintain a modern, profitable newspaper serving Del Rio and the community.
