Four fragments of a papyrus roll with the Book of Deuteronomy, claimed to predate other Bible manuscripts by 300 years, were found in John Rylkend's Library Manchester. Ch Roberts of St John’s College Oxford announced in Iwo Bib cal Papyri. The second century B C Septuagint fragment came from a cartonnage used in mummies.
LLANO July 25 Mrs. Mary Fieming 93 longtime Llano County resident met her half sister Phoebe Barnett 54 who she did not know existed until a recent visit. Barnett from Bone Cave Tennessee, former home of Fieming, learned of the kin via Tennessee relatives and arranged their reunion in Llano.
July 23 Dallas The Democratic primary shows Gov. James V. Allred drawing solid support from major cities including Dallas San Antonio Hotiel Austin Waco and others amid a generally light public interest in state races. Officials report a total expected vote near 1,000,000 though noon counts were low with precincts like Del Rio showing minimal activity.
Beaumont July 25 Ed ward Avery McAhenny millionaire owner of Avery Island near New Iberia La announced plans to build a $50,000 temple to house a six foot statue of Buddha given by friends. The statue carved in the 32th century and valued at $15,000 belonged to a Chinese official and was sent to New York for sale. The statue will be placed in an ornate Oriental shrine replica. Avery Island has long been home to the Melhenny family since the American Revolution.
William C. Bird vice president of the Prophylactic Brush Company announced that all workers employed since July 1 1935 would receive a week of paid vacation. He cited higher sales in the first six months of the year and said profits would be shared with about 400 employees in Northampton Massachusetts.
Del Rio and vicinity expect fair conditions tonight and Sunday. East Texas stays warm with most areas cloudy in the south and unsettled in the Rio Grande Valley. West Texas remains generally fair tonight and Sunday with warm daytime temperatures.
