Valley View Texas July 23 four robbers kidnaped night watchman Robert Anderson after looting the Miller Drug Store of 100 dollars in cash narcotics valued at 150 dollars and other merchandise. Anderson was carried four miles out on Highway 77 and released.
The body of a Mexican man was found shot to death near Alpine Texas by Joe Graham and his two daughters while traveling from the Graham ranch. A knife bearing the name Jose Ortego was found with the victim.
The Sheep and Goat Raisers Association of Texas calls a special executive committee meeting in Sonora on Thursday July 28 to discuss the resignation of President T A Kincaid who has led the group eight years. Vice President Roger Gillis of Del Rio was asked to convene the panel but did not, prompting a formal call. If accepted, Kincaid’s successor will be chosen, with Gillis seen as the leading candidate and other potential contenders including Oscar Appelt Judge J A Whitten Sol Meyer Ed Mayer J T Davis and Roy Aldwell.
The annual Sunday school encampment of the Texas Baptist convention opened in Leakey with about 1000 attendees expected by Sunday. Sessions run through July 31 featuring religious education and recreation. Floods damaged the camp site and delayed opening, but repairs and improved road conditions are complete. Delegations from San Marcos Austin and Gonzalez are enrolling.
In Fall River United Rayon Mills resumes with 200 workers, up 100 from closure totals, and expects 450 by mid next week. Merrimac Valley shows prosperity as 1,500 shoe workers return. Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt and industrialist Owen Young met at the Roosevelt estate in Hyde Park. Both men were reticent, but officials believed they agreed on the topics discussed. Young declined to comment and Roosevelt said they talked facts trends and needs.
Community canning programs are sponsored by many chambers of commerce across Texas, says Carl A. Blasig of Brady, secretary of the Texas Commercial Executives Association. The aims include helping farmers without funds to preserve home grown vegetables and using surplus produce to feed the unemployed.
Val Verde County to form a Taxpayers League within weeks with sponsors announcing initial action and broad civic support from city and county officials and the Chamber of Commerce. The league will be non partisan and organized after August primaries to aid budgeting and tax savings.

Florenz Ziegfeld the famed Broadway producer and creator of the Follies died unexpectedly in Hollywood after a heart attack. Billie Burke rushed to his bedside at a Los Angeles hospital as friends anticipated funeral services there. Ziegfeld, born in Chicago in 1868, shaped American show business from early on and faced regret over the nudity trend in his later era.
The Evening News will display Democratic primary tallies tonight on a street screen near the office using a stereopticon. With 111 names on the ballot and a large expected vote, access is limited to newsroom staff to ensure accuracy and rapid tabulation after polls close at 7 p.m.

Roy Robertson leader of the California contingent of the Bonus Expeditionary Force left for Los Angeles today in his own car. Hundreds of former soldiers gathered at the Veterans Bureau to obtain tickets home with government funds on adjusted service compensation certificates. The transport funds deadline is midnight tomorrow.
About 100 to 160 local men will be employed soon to clear right of way for a 14 mile highway project between Buna and Kirbyville on route 8. The work is Federal aid and will start after a federal inspection and final approval, with the contract to be let in Austin.

In Shreveport Louisiana three unidentified youths aged 15 to 20 were found on the Tilinoia Central tracks at Boden nine miles east of Shreveport. Authorities suspect murder and placement of the bodies to mislead investigators. One belt bore the name John M. Lott and a shirt laundry marked Ascia.
