Reports from Naples indicate a powerful new earthquake struck southern Italy causing widespread destruction. Early tallies show hundreds dead and about 900 injured, with Melfi city nearly wiped out as tremors rattled multiple towns.
Governor Dan Moody granted clemency to veteran Marvin McDonald, jailed for six months after a February arrest on a pickpocketing charge at carnival grounds. The parole follows a district judge and jurors who supported the petition for mercy.

REVVER Massachusetts July 73. A farmer, Arthur Rowe of Musiwcom, is believed to have drowned after his vehicle plunged into Pierce River when the car collided with a bridge abutment. A lone witness described the fatal crash as the car went into the water. the woman passenger survived.
Two permits issued by the city engineering department total 4406 dollars. M Iglesias plans a residence in North Heights with frame stucco walls measuring 90 by 37 feet and a 10 by 18 foot garage at a cost of 3500 dollars. Texas Gas Utilities Co received a permit for a steel frame meter station in East Del Rio costing 900 dollars.
A triple rainbow appeared in the Patton community after a cold shower driven by a northwest wind. Local observers and amateur weather prophets offered varied forecasts following the sighting.
Gerald Buckley, WMBC announcer and recall leader against Mayor Charles Bowles, was shot dead in a Detroit hotel lobby. Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Olivia McLeroy aged 55 were held Wednesday morning with interment at West lawn cemetery. The Del Rio resident, who had moved from Alpine a year ago with her son H. A. McLeroy, had lived in Georgia before moving to Texas two years ago. She died Tuesday after a six week illness. Survived by son H. A. McLeroy of Del Rio.
Luther Albert Holmes of Terrytown New York and Lois Ethel Apple man of Beaumont filed notice of intention to marry. Mario Gonzalez and Estela Guerra were issued a marriage license Tuesday afternoon by the county clerk's office.

Dan Murrah 61 of Val Verde County died suddenly from heart disease at JRB Murdrah home Wednesday morning around 11 o clock after returning from town. He served two terms as Schleicher County sheriff and moved to Val Verde County in 1908 to run a ranch. He weighed about 400 pounds and had been treated in Hot Springs Arkansas weeks earlier. He leaves two sisters Mrs Susan Murrah deceased and Mrs Ed Herd and a brother J B Murrah residing on Werte Weak Street. Funeral plans not set as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs Roy Chastang suffered serious neck injuries in an afternoon wreck on Canal Street. Miss Dolly Lumpkins and Miss Grace Fort were riding in a Pontiac when Miss Della Diaz in a Buick struck the vehicle while Diaz crossed the San Felipe bridge. Lumpkins had minor bruises and a broken rear wheel. Fort was unharmed.
Judge Ed Wilkins former Bexar County judge will speak at Greenwood Park at 8 15 tonight in a park gathering to hear his address. A 30 minute King's Band concert precedes the speaking and Judge C C Belcher of Del Rio will introduce the speaker.
Fire crews answered multiple false alarms in recent days. A call at 300 block East Third produced no blaze. Earlier they were sent to Avenue A and Eighth Street, and Saturday to San Felipe with no fire found. No serious fires in 50 days.
Val Verde County primaries on Saturday will mark the start of a GOP versus Democratic contest with Kine Vater crowned, then Prince Democrat and Prince Republican leading a procession. After coronation, campaigns loosen into a joust of charges while King Vater watches from the eminence. Buffalo July 23 Glenn Curtiss aviation pioneer died today from a blood clot on the lung after an appendicitis operation. The man who twenty years ago stunned the world by flying from Albany to New York was brought here a week ago with appendicitis. The operation was initially thought successful, but the clot caused his death.
Seguin reports Rust Forest a 30 year old San Marcos electrician in critical condition after a 3000 volt electric shock while stringing a line from Seguin to San Antonio. Little hope is held for his recovery.
