In Del Rio during the 49th District Court trial, City Commissioner Otto Koog testified that many city transactions related to the Gillis Street bridge and related warrants occurred in San Antonio to avoid local enemies. He said funds were moved, warrants sold, and checks cashed to pay bills while defense counsel argued over appropriations and criminal allegations against Koog and others.

New York reports wool top futures were quiet for a week ending July 16 with a narrow price range and little net change. Spot tops held at 1.15 for weeks, futures in Antwerp showed minimal shifts, Bradford spot tops unchanged to up one cent, and Boston trade remained slow due to earlier strikes.
J A Copeland was added to the observers staff of the local United States Weather Bureau replacing Bryan Braley who has transferred to Las Vegas New Mexico. Copeland and his wife arrived in Del Rio from Miranda City in Webb County on Thursday.
Central Chinese government and Japanese dispatches report agreement to settle the North China crisis by local officials in Peiping. The truce requires both sides to withdraw troops west of Peiping where fighting began July 7, aiming to ease tensions and prevent war.
Houston police character Mike Salibo, 35, was found shot to death in a car in a lonely spot near Houston. Captain George Peyton said Salibo likely died in a ride shooting. Records show Balibo had 16 months in federal prison for narcotics and two years for customs violations.
Governor James V Allred said a special session of the Legislature will probably be called in late September to consider remedial measures for state finances.
The Val Verde County grand jury recessed Thursday morning and will reconvene Friday at 6 30 o clock. The panel was impaneled July 12 but officers of the court were in District Court in Laredo delaying proceedings. Foreman E K Adams led the group, with Lloyd Calk and others including T O Baker Bobby Cauthorn C R Honea Hussite Gateway Paul Rusenberger and several more.
A late news report from New York states a mysterious aircraft was seen hundreds of miles from Newfoundland after radio operators intercepted a message claiming the plane had crossed the Atlantic. The sighting came as authorities awaited further word from the investigation.
A. W. Birdwell of Nacogdoches said the automatic tax board erred in voting a 7 cents ad valorem tax for schools amounting to $17.50 per capita. He stated the association would continue its push for liberal support of public schools.
