Louis Murph told authorities that a girl employed at his home sold 1500 dollars worth of jewelry to a transient merchant for 3 dollars. He said the valuables were hidden in a piano and the girl found them while cleaning. She admitted the sale about six weeks ago.

Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi known for wireless telegraphy dies unexpectedly in Rome at 71. Born Bologna April 25 1874 he transformed naval and aviation communications and long distance radio beam technology. He lived much of his later years aboard the yacht Electra and helped connect ships and explorers worldwide.

The De Rio post office is upgraded to first class after a 161 percent rise in postal receipts. Fiscal year 1937 receipts reached 49 596, up from 42 713 in 1936, with Dr John R. Brinkiey credited for boosting business and local authorities predicting continued growth.
Washington July 20 The Public Health Service urges men to discard collars and ties during hot weather to allow sweating and evaporation. Doctors say this improves temper and may prevent prostration, calling heat a physiological blow to the body that should be met by cooling through normal sweating.
