Funeral held Sunday at 6 in San Angelo. illness of Teet Dobkins prevented Del Rio relatives from attending.
Canyon July 20 Joe Hill Jr who spent two years in Antarctica with Admiral Byrd has become the youngest American to hold the Congressional Medal of Honor. He and Demas Dustin and George Black 40 meanwhile run the Little America concession at the Dallas Centennial exposition while aiding Byrd’s inland advance base near Little America.
In Mexico City labor and management turned to the government to end the electric workers strike. Direct talks between strikers and officials of the Mexican Light and Power Company were suspended by day as representatives rejected wage demands totaling 278000 dollars annually. A Chambers of Commerce session was called to discuss a general business shutdown.
Del Rio grower O. B. Strahl of 204 East First Street entered the peach championship scene with a fruit weighing over a pound and 14 inches in diameter. He displayed one giant fruit and noted another nearly as large fed breakfast for two. His Mayflower tree is four years old and he expects more of the huge peaches.

All time heat records were tied across North Central and East Texas as a Mid West heat wave moved south. At least one death was attributed to the heat with numerous prostrations reported. Jack Bennie drowned north west of Vernon seeking relief from 114 degree heat. Wichita Falls 111 and Lubbock 108 tied all time highs. Sherman and Abilene at 108. Altus reached 120 officially, the highest in the area, with 110 in Gainesville the highest since 1934.
Del Rio experiences a heat spike as Sunday temperatures reach 96 degrees and nights fail to drop to normal levels. Officials attribute the heat to a southward surge of sultry Midwestern weather, with residents returning from weekend trips finding the heat overpowering.
Rain clouds dumped showers over parts of the nation’s corn belt easing a heat wave and drought. Weekend rains and cooler temperatures provided relief, while strong winds in spots added several deaths to the month’s toll, now over 4,500.

Sheriff Brown questioned witnesses and pressed the alibi of Mark Wodiner, a 35 year old concert violinist from New York, amid the investigation of Helen Clevenger’s death at a Asheville hotel. The 18 year old NYU student was assaulted with a sharp instrument and shot while kneeling for mercy. a taxi driver saw a man jump from a hotel balustrade near the time of the killing.
Jerry McCulley suffered a fractured right arm Friday evening on the Jenkins ranch in Kinney County. He was taken to Del Rio for treatment Saturday by his parents, Arch and Mrs. Jenkins, after running into a fence while leasing a pig.
Dr and Mrs John R Brinkley will add a swimming pool at their Palm Drive home in Hudson Gardens Del Rio. The pool will be built by Bus broom and Rauh of Salina Kansas and will provide work for many men during the next 60 days. The pool adds to the Brinkley home’s status as a show place in Del Rio.
In Raymon dville on July 18 two major oil leases were completed. Humble Oil Refining Co. took 31,000 acres along Willacy and Kenedy lines, with drilling planned within 60 days for a 1,500-foot test. Magnolia Petroleum Co. leased 20,060 acres into Cameron County for 22,000 bonus and 11,000 rental.
Mr and Mrs Albert Wilkinson traveled from Legion near Kerrville after funeral services for F M Warden father of Mrs Wilkinson s son He died Saturday night and services were held Sunday afternoon Survivors include two brothers George Warden and Will Warden both of San Antonio
Dr. John R. Brinkley on vacation aboard his yacht the Brinkley II with Mrs. Brinkley and Johnnie has let the contract for a swimming pool to be built at the Brinkley residence on Palm Drive in Hudson Gardens.
Judge Joe Burkett of San Antonio visited Del Rio on Saturday to campaign for chief justice of the Court of Civil Appeals in San Antonio. The 50 year old jurist has five years as a trial judge and 24 years in practice, born in Llano County and lifelong Texan. He backed the Truth-in-Public Bill in the 1921 to 1925 legislature to aid West Texas sheep and goat raisers and pledges to run no more than two terms.
Norman Thomas, Socialist candidate for the presidency, told the Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia that President Roosevelt was more progressive and more alert to human problems than Landon. The remarks were made in Charlottesville on July 17.
Angleton reports Luke Trammell and Forrest Gibson, long term convicts, were slated for trial tomorrow for the slaying of Guard Felix Smith during their June 17 escape from Retrieve prison farm. They were indicted jointly and may face the death penalty. Texas and Southern Oklahoma officers pursued the fugitives and captured them in Limestone County after weeks of pursuit.
A July storm gusts to 56 mph toppled trees and damaged wires across Kansas City. A small baseball grandstand was blown away as telephones and power lines were crippled in parts of the city.

The sea held its secret as ships and planes widened the search for the motorship Nuneco missing with 22 aboard after sailing from Georgetown in the West Indies on July 4. It should have reached Tampa by July 8. No word has been heard since departure.

East Texas shows cloudy skies with likely thundershowers in the Northeast and extreme East tonight and Tuesday, while the Northwest and North Central stay not as warm.
