CHIPPEWA FALLS Wisconsin July 16 United States Senator Louis Murphy of Iowa was killed when the automobile he rode in left the road after a tire blew out near Bloomer. Mrs Murphy suffered shock and possible rib injury while Mr and Mrs F W Woodward of Dubuque were treated for bruises.
Sing Sing prison officials prepared for a double execution of Ada Applegate Frances Creighton and Faverett Applegate. Creighton is bed-ridden for eight days and doctors report she is not sham. Officials face the task of transporting her to the chair as prosecutors seek justice in Ossining New York.
Officers investigated the mutilated body of a boy about seven found yesterday in a shallow grave on the Leon River bank. A fisherman found the body partially exposed by recent rains. no missing children were reported in the area.
Four Texas university teams chose to debate state ownership of all munitions plants, with three questions advancing to final ballot including a unicameral legislature and a model tax plan. Measles led Texas disease lists for the week ending July 11, with 7 cases that week and 86 the prior week.

Interment followed at the new San Felipe Cemetery with the W O W in charge after the service. Garza died Tuesday at 1 o clock in Williams San tarium after a weeklong illness of acute gastritis. He was born in Piedras Negras November 1 1481 naturalized in Eagle Pass and moved to Del Rio at age nine. Pallbearers included Walter F Jones Sergio Gonzales Jr Pilar Garza Douglas Newton Manuel Arranaga and Ramon Mendez.
American Youth Commission of the American Council on Education presses ahead with a ground breaking conference on preventing conditions that hinder the normal development of boys and girls. The discussion centers on relief for unemployment and limited opportunity among young people.
Congressman Chas L South of Coleman will visit Jel Rio late Thursday afternoon. Judge South had been elected as representative from Uns district when it was formed two years ago.
W T Hope, 74, longtime Val Verde County surveyor for about 40 years, died Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be Thursday at 4 PM in Doran Chapel with Rev L B Gilbert officiating. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery. Born November 11, 1861 in Orangesborough Kentucky. Survived by widow Kate, four sons Oscar Raymond Mayfield and William, daughter Virginia, sister Virge Calhoun.
Val Verde County to appoint a new county surveyor after the death of W. T. Hope who served 20 years since 1916. County Judge Clarence Herreford said no special session will be held. Hope was the sole candidate and his name appears on the Democratic primary ballots for July 25.
Fritz Wehner round-house foreman told Lions Club members that courteous safe and cheap train travel defines Railroad Week. He traced transportation history noting trains are safest with no passenger deaths last year while auto accidents totaled 387000. He cited Del Rio payroll for 133 employees at about $22 500 monthly and $1000 spent in June to ice trains. Jerry Daniel followed with harmonica selections.
A would-be assailant, George Andrew Mahon, a newspaper man, was arrested after an armed protest attempt on King Edward in London. Police said the revolver fell between the King and his troops and was knocked from the assailant’s hand by a woman in grey. Mahon was remanded for eight days.
Funeral services for Mrs Clifford Katie Holman 46 wife of Homer Holman were held Thursday at 9 oclock from the First Methodist Church with Rev Beasley officiating. Interment was in Westlawn Cemetery. She died Wednesday at 2 15 am after a long illness. She was born January 19 1890 in Sherman and taught school in Sonora before marrying Homer Holman December 20 1913. Survivors include her husband two daughters Annette and Marilyn of Del Rio her mother Mrs W H Miller of Sherman two sisters Miss Olga Miller of Sherman and Mrs Hugh Powler of Forney and a brother Morris Miller of Sherman. Pallbearers were Clarence Herreford M D McNutt Sam Draper C E Long and W F Humphreys.
MADRID July 16. Round up of hundreds of fascist chiefs and sub chiefs and leaders of extreme right parties was under way across Spain. Detentions were made after officials learned of instructions to prepare for subversive move ment. Labor and political clashes have left 23 killed and 68 wounded in two weeks.
