Three Del Ricans and one unknown colored man were critically injured in a Sunday morning automobile crash near Uvalde. Ed Mey and daughter Nadine Webb along with others were en route to San Antonio when their car struck the colored man’s vehicle near a cemetery bend. Nadine Webb, 11, suffered a broken leg, other injuries included broken ribs for Mey and cuts for Webb. Mrs Webb and Nadine were taken to Fort Sam Houston hospital. Mey rested at the home of Lt. Allan Smith in Fort Sam Houston.
An explosion and fire in a Dortmund coal mine killed ten miners and injured 32 with unknown numbers trapped. About hundred men were at work when the blast occurred. The mine director would not disclose full details or rescue figures, but officials hoped the fire could be controlled to save workers.
Partly cloudy conditions in Del Rio and vicinity with a high near 94 yesterday and a low around 73. Overnight minimum fell to 70 this morning, with similar conditions forecast for tonight and Tuesday.
The forecast indicates a chance of showers in the extreme western portion tonight and Tuesday. Stronger activity remains confined to that area with cooler, unsettled conditions spreading later in the period.
In Columbus Mississippi on July 15 Bert Moore and Dooley Morton two 25 year old Black farmers were seized from Deputy Sheriff Parker Harris of Lowndes County by a white mob eight miles south of Columbus and hanged to a tree. The pair were arrested Sunday after alleged attempts to attack a white woman, wife of an Arkansas lumberman living near Zion Negro Church.
A dinner invitation to James J. Horrigan included a scrawled note You bring the duck The man did not appear for dinner and was found at police headquarters where he was booked for stealing a duck in Los Angeles California on July 15.
At Brady July Jubilee, 294 rams and ewes sold for an average of 28 a head over three days. Top price 500 for Lazy Bones, a champion ram owned by Victor Pierce and bought by W S Hansen of Utah. Hansen sent 92 of his rams, with other sales reaching 80 to 106. Victor Pierce led averages with 18 rams at 77 each. The next sale is planned for Salt Lake City in August.

The Sixth District United States Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the federal government cannot condemn land for public housing projects. The decision affirms Judge Dawson from Louisville, who found condemnation for housing illegal beyond federal power to condemn lands for public buildings parks fortifications arsenals. Secretary Ickes warned the ruling could affect a $160,000,000 housing program across 40 cities.
Representatives Dies and Patton of Texas protested the Forest Service plan to buy over 1,000,000 acres of waste timber land in East and Southeast Texas. Also, Mertom Ward Goodrich’s attorney asked for a postponement of the trial for the confessed slayer of Lillian Galbagher to allow defense preparations for temporary insanity. The Highway Commission announced the cancellation of most temporary road designations to improve eligibility for WPA participation.
Fort Worth July 15 Hal S Lattimore associate justice of the Second Court of Civil Appeals mailed his resignation to Governor Allred. He cited low judicial pay in Texas and announced the move via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram while in Houston.
Austin July 15 District Judge P A Martin of Wichita Falls is slated for appointment to the Fort Worth Court of Civil Appeals if Associate Justice Hal S Lattimore resigns Gov James V Allred said he had been told Lattimore would resign to return to private practice Martin serves as presiding judge of his administrative district is a member of the State Judicial Council He previously ran for the Fort Worth seat last summer but lost to Marvin H Brown who also defeated A J Power the incumbent
San Angelo July 15 Livestock trading remains brisk and prices rise in West Texas despite heat. Feeder ewe lambs for Fall delivery bring 6 to 7 cents a pound, mixed lambs 6 to 6 1/2 cents, with some ranchers asking 7 cents. Good yearling ewes sell for 6 to 7 dollars each, most 5 dollars for immediate delivery. Canton Jacobs, a local dealer, reports orders for ewe lambs at 7 cents for Fall delivery and predicts no more than 35 percent lamb crop in Texas with no ewe lambs sold to feeders. The range is good but some showers needed in Valentine, Alpine, Marfa, and Pecos areas.
Workmen digging for a foundation unearthed a pioneer branding iron stamped JO&C. Kerr County records show it was recorded January 14, 1867 by John Ochs & Company. The iron, found near the old Ochs mercantile site, was given to the Kerr County Museum after discovery.
Washington reports a 3.3 percent June decline in the relief population from May. 2,033,073 people in June relied wholly or partly on federal aid, down from 2,070,640 families and individuals in May. Hopkins links the drop to private hiring and warmer weather while works programs gain momentum with river and harbor projects and new highway and grade crossing regulations.

Pro ducers sale starts at 10 a.m. offering 1,250,000 pounds at their warehouse. Del Rio sale begins at 2 p.m. with 250,000 pounds.
William Richard Redmond is alive and fighting the Veterans Administration over a death benefit. His wife Viola Redmond has received a letter offering to assist with a claim by reason of his supposed death. Senator Duffy intervenes to prove Redmond is living and employed by Union Pipe Fitting Company in Fort Atkinson Wisconsin.
Sheriff A. E. Steinmetz returned from College Station where he attended the second annual short course in crime detection. About 100 officers from various branches joined six days of lectures and practical demonstrations by experts from the Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory and Criminology specialists.
In Brownwood on July 1, District Judge E J Miller bore a bruised face after a two man altercation in the 35th District Court room with Attorney Gib Callaway. Witnesses said the judge restrained and did not strike back as Callaway showed displeasure with a ruling. Miller sentenced Callaway to three days in jail and fined him 56 dollars, half the maximum in such cases. Callaway had opposed Miller in the 1932 district judge race.
Premier Mussolini ordered the mobilization of another regular army division and creation of a second blackshirt division. He also ordered immediate construction of 10 submarines. Total regular divisions for East Africa rise to five and five blackshirt divisions are created, giving Italy at least a quarter million forces for potential war with Ethiopia.
Del Riouns and residents can view the total lunar eclipse tonight with partial cloud cover possible. The event begins at 9 11 p.m. and lasts until 11 10 p.m. with a dull red moon phase surrounding totality visible across North and South America, the Atlantic, southwestern Europe, and Africa.
Del Rio Volunteer Fire Department chief Harry Arfman departed Sunday to attend the annual state training school for firemen at A and M College. The program runs Monday through Friday with chemists and trained firefighters offering courses to earn the city a better fire credit grade based on class exams.
