Inspectors traveled 279388 miles, including 275220 by motor and 754 by horseback, with 24260 questioned and 53,251 total persons examined. Honolulu July 13 The carrier Lexington drives its air patrol to scan the South Pacific as officials announce this as the navy's last effort to locate Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan amid a tropical storm that could slow the mission. The crew remains hopeful the aerial force will locate the pair.
