Washington July 12 The House rules committee faced heated exchanges as Rep Brewster Maine accused RFC attorney Thomas Corcoran of threats to halt Passamaquoddy dam work unless he backed abolition of holding companies Corcoran denied the threat and challenged Brewster while the debate over the death sentence clause roiled lawmakers, with both sides trading charges and muttered threats.

Texas wool sells at firm 70 to 75c ranges. London sale totals 10 151 bales with 9 627 sold and merino demand remains strong from buyers at firm prices.

San Angelo angler Jax M. Cowden holds the record tarpon catch after the American Museum of Natural History in New York recognized the 242 pound seven foot eight inch fish caught in the Panuco River, Mexico, on March 4, 1934. The prize fish fed inmates at Tamaulipas State Penitentiary. Cowden used Pfluefer bait and a Van Holm reel to snag the tarpon, surpassing the previous 232 pound mark.
The attorney general's department in Austin studies an 180 page abstract on the Devil's River Country Club grounds as a potential State Park site. The Parks Board and a Federal inspector approved the location and bonds totaling $15 000 were voted April 2 1935 for about 500 acres with a daily water supply requirement of 8 000 gallons. The park would be maintained by the State Parks Board with no local expense.
Erle P. Halliburton, wealthy oil executive, reports threats to himself and family after criticizing dole recipients. Police guard his Los Angeles and Duncan Oklahoma properties as an unknown caller warned of an oil plant blast and warned to watch his children.
Senate lobby committee received evidence from Philip H. Gadsen of Philadelphia that public utility executives spent over 300000 to defeat the abolition of unnecessary holding companies in the utilities bill. New Orleans July 12. Walmsley city mayor T Semmes Walmsley refused to resign after a formal request from leaders of his political organization. He reiterated resolve to oppose Senator Huey Long, even if acting alone.
Benjamin H. Miller 47 longtime Eagle Pass district public schools superintendent died at home of a heart attack. He had served 11 years with the district and recently took leave after 18 months illness. Miller was a Texas education leader and Curriculum Board member with degrees from the University of Texas.
A National Geographic Society and United States Army Air Corps stratosphere balloon collapsed at 3 a.m. mountain time in Rapid City, releasing 375000 cubic feet of helium. No injuries reported as ground ropes slackened and the top opened, blue haze formed from suspected talcum powder. Captain Albert W. Stevens led the flight, saying there is no explanation.
Kerrville shipments by Schreiner Wool and Mohair Commission Co to Boston buyers include 67 carloads of Spring wool with 12 to 15 more cars expected, totaling about 79 or more cars. Delays from washed ranch roads and heat affect rounding up sheep, with sales to Winslow & Co and Draper & Co of Boston and 14 cars of Spring mohair sent to Sanford Mills in Maine.
City Judge John Lochabay detained two San Felipe youths aged 10 and 12 after a purse was taken from a car near his shop. He handed them to police with the evidence. The pair were held Friday afternoon in the city jail.
