A British patrol and Palestinian police killed 10 attackers near Mount Tabor as fighting surged in North Palestine. One Jewish constable died and two British soldiers were wounded, part of a week with more than 300 casualties. Haifa police and marines moved in while telephone lines were cut across the north.
Mrs. Willie Gilmore of Vann and Miss Henrietta James of Groesbeck visited Del Rio on Monday to support W E James candidate for state superintendent of public instruction. James lives in Travis County and runs in the Democratic primary on July 23. Campaign cards and literature were handed out.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly membership meeting Tuesday at 8 pm in the Chamber offices. S. B. Buchanan Jr. announced the gathering with plans to discuss state convention matters, as vice president Walter S. Lazenby chairs due to his vacation in North Carolina.

Postmaster Ray Ross announced the extension of a city mail delivery route to include Strickland Street and surrounding blocks up to Locust Street affecting 1,235 people in 247 families. Delivery will start after houses are numbered and metal mailboxes are installed. carriers remain the same.
Val Verde County reports 93.1 percent of the 1937 levy collected. Tax assessor Lyle S. Almond notes November 1937 through June 1938 payments totaled 89,764.90, with 50,837.76 state and 38,927.14 county. The 1937 levy was 96,397.80, 54,485.10 state and 41,912.70 county. The year shows better collection than 1936. Some taxpayers used the split payment plan.
Pres ident Franklin D. Roosevelt left Fort Worth at 10 01 A M for Amarillo after a restful weekend. He planned platform addresses at Wichita Falls Childress and Clarendon as part of a speaking tour across the region.
Windsor July 11. Queen Elizabeth will take the king's place at the Buckingham Palace presentation tomorrow night after King George recovers from gastric influenza. The queen will appear with his mother, signaling a return from mourning and public duties.

H B Opp and L E Trimble face trial in Belton on new indictments after the Menard May grand jury. About 50 witnesses from Menard area testified, the case moving from Fredericksburg on a venue change.
Del Rio Masons and families joined about 300 attendees at a Sunday barbecue and picnic in a park near Piedras Negras hosted by Piedras Negras Masons. Members from Brackettville Carrizo Springs and Eagle Pass also participated.
