A city hall survey shows Del Rio faced a deficit for 1931 with expenditures for the first six months totaling 53 504 50 and a general fund overdraft of 130.50. Back taxes totaling about 18 000 could erase the deficit if paid. average monthly payroll runs near 3 000.
Seattle July 7 Reginald Robbins and H OS Jones cannot leave until tomorrow for Fairbanks Alaska on the first leg of a non stop refueling flight to Tokio. Robbins reported the refueling plane was forced down at Telegraph Creek British Columbia while attempting the first refueling contact.
A deputy sheriff crawled through a window in Mobile to seize liquor found inside a house while another officer restrained a vicious dog outside by feeding it tidbits and patting its head.

Woodman, invites prospective pickers to register for timely placement.
H. F. Schiegel, 50, a cattle buyer, was robbed of $40 and shot twice on a highway near Shamrock Texas. He crawled to a vacant house and fainted, then lay critically ill after being found by a passerby. Police sought two bandits day after the Sunday shooting.

Tyler Texas July 7 The Tulsa Oil Company's No. 1 O'Quinn near Overton vented skyward after a nitroglycerin blast extinguished a three week blaze. Floyd Kinley, who tackled the Gladewater fire, placed a torpedo after two failed trials. Additional nitro arrived from Tulsa and the final blast succeeded.
Three Colorado City men were released on personal recognizance on negligent homicide charges after Pat Murphy 28 drowned Saturday night near Junction. Murphy and companions swam in the Liano River on July 4. search began Sunday morning when Murphy vanished. Investigators found empty bottles at camp. body recovered and taken to Colorado City for funeral services. The case was filed before Justice Waller Buck against Dorn and another unnamed man.
United Press survey of quarterly bank calls shows Del Rio along with San Angelo and Austin reporting higher deposits. Del Rio’s three banks held 2,203,409.06 on March 25 and 2,319,251.48 on June 30, with totals across Texas showing large declines in most cities and modest gains in the named locales.
Miss Linda Hanz, 19, drowned while swimming with friends in the Guadalupe River at New Braunfels city park. Louise Vorheier and Lola Letsch tried to help and nearly died themselves. they were rescued by parkkeeper Frank Roemisch. Linda’s sister Watlie Hanz and Louise’s sister Wilma Vorheier witnessed from the riverbank.
Donald Covin 22 testifies about a relationship with Mrs. Marie Hart, saying he did not know she was married and after she told him she would return to her husband he "went crazy." Hart was shot twice on the Rice Hotel mezzanine. Covin was arrested nearby with the pistol. Letters from Hart to Covin were shown in court.
Preparations were underway in Del Rio for the annual meeting of the U. S. Highway No. 90 Association to be held Saturday at Hotel Roswell. Clay Helland of Alpine will preside, with A. F. Johnson from Alpine serving as secretary. Officers will be elected for the coming year and plans for the new year mapped out.
