In San Angelo on July 5, a sale of about 200 steer calves from the A H Murchinson herd at Menard brought eight cents a pound for Fall delivery, reviving 1928 price levels. Dr. E. E. Dawson, erstwhile pastor of the First Baptist Church of Del Rio, has announced his resignation as pastor of the Baptist Church of Fort Davis. He preached his farewell sermon at Fort Davis last Sunday and said he plans to move to Hico in Hamilton County, Central West Texas.
A national conference of self-styled radicals in Chicago opened with leaders predicting a left wing third party next year. The gathering, about 200 conferees, aims to form a new social order as its platform, called by an initiating committee of former members of Congress.
Washington July 5 President Roosevelt signed the Wagner Labor Bill describing it as an important step toward just and peaceful labor regulations. The measure guarantees workers the right to collective bargaining and speak for all employees through a majority chosen organization and forbids employer interference with self organization. The new national labor relations board is described as a quasi judicial body in an accompanying statement.
Records from the Tuskegee Institute Department of Records and Research show four lynchings in the first half of 1935, all of them Black victims. Offenses included assault, rape, and murder, with two lynchings for murder, one for each of the other offenses. Louisiana and Mississippi each accounted for two lynchings.
Governor James V. Allred told Brady luncheon guests he will seek county luncheon clubs to appoint boards of prominent citizens to parole worthy convicts. He criticized past parole without adequate department checks and urged a constitutional amendment to place pardoning power with a special board.
Fort Worth July 5 Federal Judge James C Wilson ruled Texas cannot tax cigarets ordered from out of state by Texas customers as interstate commerce. The court granted a restraining order to Glen W Musser and the Texas Tobacco Company of Ardmore Okla preventing Texas officials from interfering with the business. Ardmore firm's 45 agents operated in Texas delivering cigarets with no Texas tax paid per package. Witnesses testified purchases occurred before cigarets entered the state and agents only delivered goods.
A Pedras Negras game warden’s report states prohibition of hunting and fishing in Northern Mexico for both foreigners and Mexican citizens. An export permit for 10,000 Bob White quail to the United States was cancelled indefinitely.
Attorney general opinion questions a House Bill No. 6 discount provision for 1935 ad valorem taxes. It concludes the bill is unconstitutional and would leave tax collectors and bondsmen liable for any discounts given. Opinion assesses Section 1 only, notes nonuniform rates and potential liability if discounts are accepted against the full tax.
A massive blast tore a 1000-ton slice from Table Rock at Niagara's Canadian Horseshoe Falls and sent debris into the gorge as fifty thousand visitors watched. A second blast cut the ledge known as Honeymoon Point to half its size to prevent rock slides from a 200 foot crack.
Senator Steiner of Oregon charged wool buyers speculate at producers and government expense after the Senate agriculture committee backed a resolution for a Senate inquiry into wool production transport and sales. He cited Boston as the trade hub where dealers act as approved consignees and buy and sell wool on favorable terms while producers and government-held wool sit unsold. He urged legislation to bar dealers from handling consigned wool altogether, arguing a dealer could not mix both roles.
Approximately 2,000,000 pounds of wool, about 100 carloads, have been sold this spring in Brady to eastern markets. McCulloch County clip totals around 3,000,000 pounds. Dick Winters earned top price, selling 20,000 pounds at 26 1 2 cents per pound.
John J. Bennet, president of the Chesapeake and Ohio and Peremarquetts Railroads, died here today. The dispatch also notes a separate train wreck in Bainville Montana where the Empire Builder derailed after a washout, injuring 24 passengers, with two seriously hurt. In Detroit, four suspects arrested for a $134 hold-up pleaded not guilty at arraignment.
The AP reports at least 201 deaths nationwide from July Fourth celebrations, 12 in Texas, with thousands more injured as the holiday marks its 159th year. Accidental deaths totaled higher or lower than prior years in sections, including two directly from fireworks and 82 from automobile incidents, amid a costly holiday.
The Senate Agriculture Committee sent its farm administration program revisions to the floor including wool and mohair after Senator Hatch urged their inclusion at the request of Byron Wilson. Senator Byrd may seek to remove these commodities, while House Chair Marvin Jones questioned their inclusion without a defined program. If approved, a conference with the House would follow many proposed changes.
Ethiopia appeals to Secretary Hull for aid under the Kellogg Briand Pact to maintain peace in East Africa. Haile Selassie says Ethiopia will cooperate for peace while preserving independence. The Italian government spokesman in Rome says the appeal will not alter Italy’s stance on the border dispute.

The Senate committee chair says he is morally certain of a veto and notes opposing forces prepare for another clash Monday as two lobby investigators line up. House Rules Committee plans a full, fair, impartial inquiry starting Monday.
