W. F. Buckley of Del Rio, son of Mrs. M. J Buckley, was injured June 28 in Boulder City when his motorcycle fell with him. He is employed there and was reported recuperating with a broken right leg in two places. a sister, Mrs. Josie Gobble, noted he was resting well.
Washington July 3 A lump sum of 5 448 020 14 will be paid by Mexico to the United States to satisfy all American claims for damages from the 1910 to 1920 Mexican revolution. Payments will be in annual installments of 600 000 distributed to claimants by the State Department. The settlement mirrors recoveries by six European powers with similar Mexico claims.
A three year old boy playing with matches started a fire in the clothes closet of Mr and Mrs Jack Edwards on Devil's River highway. The flames were discovered when smoke filled the closet. the child was uninjured though frightened. Damages were confined to the closet, according to Chief Harry Altman.
Exhibits from every World War allied nation are being sought for the Texas Memorial Museum to be built on the University of Texas campus with American Legion sponsorship. Senator Morris Sheppard assists in inviting ambassadors to supply displays for the memorial and military division. An added potential exhibit is Dr. Goodall Wooten of Austin firearms collection, regarded as one of the finest in the world.
Receipts for county taxes on coin operated vending machines are now payable. Lyle Almond county tax assessor collector announced on Wednesday. State taxes go directly to the state comptroller. Taxpayers must send a list with machine serial number type and manufacture when paying state taxes. Application blanks are in the local tax collector's office.
The attorney general ruled that the discount feature of House Bill No 6 is unconstitutional and that tax collectors giving October 3 percent November 2 percent and December 1 percent discounts could be held liable on their bonds. Lyle Almond Val Verde County tax assessor collector was advised of the ruling. The comptroller will mail a copy of the opinion soon.

July 16 vacancies to fill include Spanish instructor, math and assistant coach, and a primary teacher. Leslie W. Cranfill named high school athletic director and social science teacher. Principals receive slight salary increases.

Many residents plan visits to nearby towns for rodeos and bull fights or trips to lakes for fishing and relaxation, with Del Rio residents receiving city state nation and world news as usual.
A Del Rio committee welcomed General Humphrey upon his arrival at Fort Clark to assume command. Attending visitors included Sami Walk, president of the Chamber of Commerce, R. H. Hurd, Judge W. F. Boggess, Dr. T. M. Johnson, Mayor of Del Rio, W. W. Newcomb, Roy Chastang, and James C. Netts, manager of the Chamber.
