In New Mexico authorities widen a vigil for four missing Illinois travelers George and Mrs Lorius from East St. Louis and Albert and Mrs Heberer of Du Quoin. More than 500 officers and volunteers comb a half mile strip along the Albuquerque to Vaughn corridor while photos of a suspect are shown to readers to aid identification.
L. W. Kniseley aged 70, once manager of the St. Charles Hotel in Del Rio during the war years, was found dead at his Uvalde home from a shotgun wound to the heart. He later led a hotel in Asherton and had moved to Uvalde over a year ago.
Governor Allred announced he would not interfere with the electrocution of Lewis Coronoch a Williamson County farm hand for the murder of H. J. Lindsey Granger city marshal.
George Netts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas C Netts, has passed the final physicals and been accepted as a midshipman at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. He traveled from Del Rio to Annapolis last week, passed the substantiating exam in Del Rio, and rose from third alternates to first on the list after others did not take the test. He will undertake four years of academic and naval training and pledges to serve at least three years in the Navy.
Captain Anthony Eden told the House that Premier Mussolini refused a British proposal to grant Ethiopia a strip of British Somaliland to gain access to the sea. The plan aimed to ease a final settlement of the Ethiopia Italy dispute through territorial and economic concessions.
H L Molyneux, U S weather observer, notes the first half of 1935 shows one standout event in Del Rio. On March 21 cyclonic winds reached 57 mph with gusts to 62 mph, the highest wind recorded at the station since its 1904 establishment.

In Pendleton Indiana a sawed off shotgun fired slugs killing Simon Cher and seriously wounding Robert McAllister as four prisoners attempted to escape from the Indiana State Reformatory. President Lazaro Cardenas, at the first cabinet meeting in Mexico City, restated his nationwide program. He reread January 1 message and asserted future plans would be fully enforced with no modification to religious or educational laws.
After a Senate sub committee approval the administration signaled desire for changes in the revised banking bill. President, Treasury Secretary Morgenthau and Reserve Board Governor Eccles indicated they would offer suggestions to the full Senate banking committee. The President stresses banking legislation this session.
H P Hornby collector of customs in Del Rio lauded Capt Luke Dowe as one of the best qualified men in Texas customs. Dowe retired June 30 ending long service as deputy collector at the port of Del Rio. A. E. Kraut of Eagle Pass fills the vacancy after 13 years as a clerk in the customs service.
Governor Lehman announced the New York deficit for the year ending June 30 will exceed 90 million dollars due to lower tax receipts. He had predicted about 75 million. revenues are 15 to 20 million below estimates. He expects next year’s budget measures to narrow the shortfall if conditions improve. The address was at a luncheon honoring Louis H. Pink, with 1,500 mortgage and banking officials present.
Nancy Julia Ann Sams, the region's oldest resident, died at 103 in Hereford. Had she lived five more days she would have turned 104.
In Washington Hopkins says policy moves in July will make or break the 4 billion work relief program. About 600,000 CCC recruits and other jobs aim to reach a 3.5 million employments goal, with funds split among relief, CCC, highway, and farm relief while local cost constraints curb high expense projects.
Wool quotations in Boston remained fairly firm as mills and the replacement market showed steady demand. The last three weeks stayed at higher levels than early June, with holders sticking to asking prices despite prior mid month softness.
The attorney general ruled that the act offering discounts for prompt property tax payments is unconstitutional. Enacted by the 43rd Legislature’s last session, it offered 3 percent in October, 2 percent in November, and 1 percent in December.

Vital statistics report shows 125 total births and 111 total deaths for the first half of 1935. Male births 91 and female 86. May had the most births 46, while June recorded 344 deaths. Male deaths outnumbered female deaths 68 to 57.
