Bond for Hillery Phillips was set at 1000 for related charges. another ranch hand, Hi Hair, was held on a separate complaint of attempting to sell the stolen wool.
The tax assessor collector's office will stay open Saturday night to serve those unable to call during the day. Lyle S. Almond said he will also be in the office Sunday to assist anyone unable to pay on Saturday. A supper hour around 6 to 7 pm is planned, and Friday receipts numbered 197 were issued with mail options for those who cannot visit.
E B Spiller secretary and general manager of the Texas Cattle Raisers Association died Saturday morning in Fort Worth. The message to R H Boo Martin of Del Rio noted Spiller had held his office for more than 30 years and was well known throughout Texas.

Chelan Washington January 30 funds from a new pensioner will be issued as 200 checks ranging 10 cents to 1 dollar to be spent in Chelan within 30 days. Merchants will add 2 percent to these checks to fund a revolving pension kitty and curb hoarding. Isom Lamb Townsend manager says the plan seeks to prevent a repeat of the Fleming experiment.
C B Dutch Wardlaw returned to Del Rio after being elected vice president of the National Wool Growers Association in Albuquerque. The group expects a 1939 Texas host location and endorses current meat import embargo, forest fire prevention, and Taylor Act administration. R C Rich was reelected president. other officers include Sylvan Pauly and T J Drumheller as vice presidents. F R Marshall reappointed secretary.
A tentative agreement between longshoremen and shipowners signals the near end of the 92 day Pacific Coast maritime strike. Observers expect crews to return to work, with unions to approve terms for about 38 000 workers and other seven unions to reach tentative pacts by week’s end.
The ailing jurist Judge James Cornell suffered a paralytic stroke Friday and is reported very ill Saturday. He is at his sister Mrs. Hunts home with relatives at his bedside. Cornell first survived a stroke in late summer 1936 and has lived in Brackettville except for brief medical care in San Antonio after his wife’s death last year. No children are noted.

The Rev Robert Forrester, pastor of Del Rio First Christian Church since 1935, has accepted a call from Brenham Christian Church and Vans. He will conduct his last service here Sunday night with his wife and three children, Dorothy Robert Jr., and Don, before leaving for Brenham early next week.
Absentee voting in the February 6 special election to fill the Del Rio district vacancy continues through Wednesday, county clerk W A Hopkins said. Five ballots were cast through Friday as Governor Allred called the election to replace Stanford Payne in the 87th Legislative District with candidates Albert Cauthornm of Del Rio and Calvin C Huffman of Eagle Pass.
