Congress approved immediate payment of the soldiers bonus by large margins. The House accepted the Senate plan for baby bond payments totaling about 2.5 billion dollars, 346 to 58, with the Senate passage 74 to 16. Speaker Burns signed the bill and sent it to Garner for signature.
Mrs. Beulah Mackey Yates nationally known food authority will conduct the Evening News electric Kitchen Chautauqua and second annual foods exhibit opening Thursday for a three day series of lectures at 752 South Main Street across from Montgomery Ward and Company. She comes from Dallas after a tour through Oklahoma and neighboring states. The event is free for Del Rio residents and nearby towns.
Mrs Matilda Senne Zinsmeister 61 wife of H E Zinsmeister of Brackettville died in a Del Rio sanitarium Tuesday afternoon. Born February 14 1874 in Medina County she was brought to Del Rio for treatment about 10 days ago. Funeral services are set for 4 pm today at Faith Lutheran Church Del Rio with Rev Earl Moehring officiating. Interment in Brackettville Cemetery under Doran Funeral Home direction.

Arrival of about 10 000 pounds of steel for the suspension bridge over the west fork of San Felipe Creek advances Del Rio’s highway park project begun in 1935. Concrete piers and steel girders arrive. cable pending. Ramsey’s Austin Nursery handles planting and beautification contracts for the park.
Weather forecast for Del Rio and vicinity calls for fair skies tonight and Thursday with a bit warmer conditions Thursday. Yesterday recorded a high of 63 and a low of 27, this morning’s low was 33, and southeast areas are expected to warm on Thursday.
The county tax assessor notes a rush to pay poll taxes by January 31. By Tuesday 1,024 receipts and 96 exemptions issued, with 325 receipts and 18 exemptions in the last four days. The total trails 1934 when 1,261 receipts were issued. Mrs. Walter Klein will join the collectors office Thursday morning.
County tax assessor Lyle S. Almond said new 1936 car licenses cannot be issued until blank receipts arrive on February 1. Drivers licenses start February 15 with March 31 as final day. No issue fee, 25 cent duplicate if lost. Old chauffeur license law remains at 3 dollar fee.
Del Rio health officer Dr. D A York and school leaders Frank Walton and R M Bankhead issue a joint appeal to parents. They urge vaccination against smallpox when possible and caution against public gatherings while mumps influenza chicken pox and smallpox cases exist. They note no quarantine on minor diseases and advocate open classrooms for ventilation.
