Squall blamed for fatal Oceanside air disaster
In Oceanside California a passenger plane crashed during a sudden squall, killing sixteen people including six men and eight women. Air experts say pilot Basil Russell attempted a turn but was forced low, the left wing hit the ground, a tank of gasoline exploded and the plane became a roaring furnace. Fifteen bodies were recovered. The accident ranks as the era’s worst for American commercial aviation.

Funeral Services Held for H. J. Barnett in Santone
Funeral services were held in San Antonio for H J Barnett former Del Rio resident and Southern Pacific road master who died suddenly in a San Antonio hospital. He was about 65 and is survived by Mrs Barnett two sons and two daughters. Fellow employees from the Del Rio division attended. He previously served as section foreman in Del Rio before transferring to Spofford headquarters.

Four Escape From Burned Auto Near Brackettville
Four men escaped a burning Nash automobile after it overturned about 8 30 PM Sunday night twelve miles east of Brackettville. John M. Eliott of Port Huron Mich suffered the most serious injuries with a cut near the left eye. The others sustained minor cuts and scratches and were treated at the scene.
