Goen, and Harry Q. Gross.
The state rested its case at 1 45 p m Saturday after three witnesses testified in District Court. Defense voices not listed, jury members named include W C Ford John Hunnicutt W R Edwards Paul Rusenberger Taylor Duke Walter Klein E J Wagner Atanacio Gonzales A J Moos Clifford King G L Dyer and Thomas E Reed.
Flames believed caused by an explosion gutted the old Georgia railroad depot and warehouse in Atlanta. The historic landmark suffered an estimated $100,000 in losses with firemen responding today.
The Denison Sherman highway fog fogged visibility when five cars collided. Harold Ransom, 19, Denison, was killed and 11 others injured. Injured include Gene Legg, 19, Denison with possible brain concussion and chest injuries Roy Moore, 19, Denison with a broken jaw and lacerations Harold McKinney, Sherman, with serious head injuries. After two cars collided, three others struck the wreckage.
Mr and Mrs J W Downum of Sanderson were slightly injured when their car left Highway No 3 west of Lozier. They were returning from Del Rio. the vehicle jumped a ditch and stopped on a bluff brink. He fetched aid for his wife while both received scratches and bruises.
A bomb exploded in midtown Havana killing one and seriously injuring three people. The blast disrupted the area and authorities investigated the source and motive of the attack.
Schreiner Wool and Mohair Commission Company reports selling its entire fall mohair stock of 900000 pounds at 26 cents per pound for kid hair and 16 cents for grown hair. Buyer is William Cheshire for Collins and Aikman Corporation. Shipments start Monday, warehouses to be emptied. Earlier on December 8 they sold 950000 pounds of spring hair at 18 and 28 cents after holding since early spring.
In Oklahoma City four ex convicts including Jim Clark pleaded guilty in federal court to violating the new law against robbing national banks. The pleas averted possible death sentences. Clark and Harvey Bailey Urschel kidnapper were involved in the Memorial Day 1923 Kansas penitentiary escape.
Fort Worth bank robbers, two men about 30, held up the First National Bank at Handley and fled with $500. They protected themselves by forcing cashier Ray McClusky to accompany them outside, while customers were swept up in the robbery.
District Court in Del Rio will hear two murder trials next week. Ramon Alagos faces a murder charge for the death of 4 year old Olga Chapoy after a car strike in Comalia. Corosifio Galindo is charged in the death of 15 year old Estella Vasquez from a Garza Avenue collision in San Felipe.
Centerville January 19. Striking swiftly officers raided several alleged hideouts for Raymond Hamilton near here soon after midnight but found no trace of him. Sheriff Lee Thomason of Leon County and two State Highway Patrolmen searched lonely farm houses in woods south of Buffalo without success. Neal Arthur highway patrolman said he had received reports that Hamilton and his gang were hiding somewhere in East Texas woods. The sheriff said there were no indications Hamilton had been in any of the houses.
A B Reagan, acting Brady postmaster since July 1, was confirmed by the Senate on January 10. He serves a second appointment, first assumed Brady post in 1914 under Wilson and held until 1922 during Harding era.
Adam Richetti and an accomplice, associates of the late Pretty Boy Floyd, have made two escape attempts and are now handcuffed together at night while held on a charge of robbery with firearms.
Del Rio officials Jas C Netts and Judge Clarence Herreford won favorable initial hearings before the State Highway Commission in Austin for expanding Highway 82 from Clarendon to Turkey and onward to Del Rio. A Panhandle delegation argued a north south route from the Canadian border to the Mexican border would become a national highway, with Mexican engineers outlining a Monterrey to Saltillo to Allende path linking to Del Rio. The commission also noted needed work on Highway 85 from Del Rio to Quemado and designated an extension of Highway 131 from Spofford to Eagle Pass connecting with Highway 85.
Oklahoma City January 1947 taxi driver W A Conde aged 34 was given 15 days in jail after pleading guilty to assault and battery on his 10 month old daughter whom he paddled. He faced the charge after the incident was reported and he admitted wrongdoing.
Funeral services were held Thursday for Mrs. Mellie Harris Wood 56 of Rocksprings. She leaves her husband P T Wood and three children Harris W A and Mrs Bailey Bird, all of Rocksprings. Mrs Wood had lived in Rocksprings for 44 years.
Florida Superior Court judge E C Collins, famed for sentencing Giuseppe Zangara to prison after the Roose velt assassination attempt, was indicted by the Dade County grand jury on charges of taking a bribe and embezzlement. The case cites a $270 payoff to vacate a prior sentence.
A stolen car from W. H. Hidalgo Brackettville crashed on a right angle curve near Del Rio's old two story building on Highway No. 3. The driver, Ralph Rhome, was scalped in the crash and later regained consciousness at Del Rio Hospital. Sheriff Steinmetz recovered seven Hidalgo checks from the wreck.
The weather bureau forecast a zero temperature sweep from the northern states with Del Rio feeling the impact within 24 hours. Rain may accompany the drop as North Texas braces for rain and snow while Brackettville and nearby towns report dry conditions No significant precipitation reached Sonora or Langtry.
